Alright, reporting in 4 days later. Sorry for the late responses.
It seems disabling Aero stopped the frame drops, however this has only started recently and it's kind of irritating that I have to do this now to stop frame drops.
etherYou wouldn't happen to own a AMD card?
I have an AMD Radeon 7570 (really low end card), never had this problem when I had my old, shitty Nvidia card, though.

With or without overlay on I had this problem, which was odd.

fps is capped @ 145 and vsync is off.
LockriceMake sure your mat_queue_mode isnt 0.
changed it to -1 from 2. nothing changed :( thank you though

hey there.
so recently when playing tf2 i've been getting some frame drops, though it's not showing.
cl_showfps and net_graph 1 both are showing constant 144fps, but in-game there is extreme choppiness. however, the game just decides to be smooth and run normally sometimes.
i'm only using 20% of my cpu and only 6gb of my 16gb of ram and with my old computer i used to run tf2 and chrome open fine without frame drops.
sorry i don't have any more information, but it's really all i know. i've tried reinstalling, clearing cache, turning it off and on again, and updating gfx card settings. does anyone else have this problem or knows how to fix it? thank you.
