#1 Steam Guard 2 Step Auth in TF2 General Discussion

This is more of a PSA to those who didn't notice

It's pretty crappy that you can't link it to Google Authenticator but maybe theyll do it down the road.
Anyway theyre adding 2 step authentication requiring a phone to log in anywhere that you haven't logged in before.

I've been remote desktop hacked before with a trojan but this should protect you from every other phishing attempt.
You have to join the group to get in the beta but if this gets released and you don't enable it and get phished it definitely opens the door to victim blaming

#17 Military experience? in Off Topic

if you have a degree id suggest getting a civilian job for the DoD so you can get all of the army benefits without the physical requirements.

i worked a year as an engineer for the dept of defense on a multi billion $ comms project and then when i left there i literally had companies fighting a salary war to hire me.

if you don't have a degree yet joining the national guard is probably the best bet, as theyre more CONUS and will pay for school, but the DoD itself if youve finished undergrad will pay for your grad school as long as you maintain a B or higher at the cost of having to work for them the equivalent amount of years you went to school for which isn't a bad deal.

You dont get paid much working for the DoD or army in general but you get ridiculous benefits and discounts everywhere (flights, cars, credit cards, gas, food, etc)

that's my two cents anyway.

#22 Valve to introduce "Paid Mods" in Off Topic
Shiftaflameanyone minus fragging this or thinking this is a bad idea is braindead.

this is a way to generate income for the artists who spend time on shit that multiple people enjoy. For larger games that arent as user friendly to manipulate (aka anything not source engine) the amount of time it takes to mod is insane. imagine if wc3 was on steam and the maker of dota wanted to charge money for it.

it makes sense, it gives indie devs a chance to shine, and it gives valve an upper hand on every other platform when it comes to content distribution because you wont have to rely on random websites and reddit links to get your stuff.

its genius.

problem is the creators only get 25% of the money

25% is still infinitely better than 0%
people make retarded money selling $1 apps on the android/iphone app store, this is no different.

also you could argue mods arent "original content" so a portion of that money probably goes toward the developers of the base game but I actually just made that up so I have no idea but it makes sense.

GTAV mod support incoming?

#7 Realtek issue in Hardware

ok as an expert realtek debugger go into the realtek hd audio manager, click the settings gear in the top right and click "separate all input jacks as independent devices" and "make front and rear panels two different audio streams simultaneously"

then go into windows audio devices by right clicking the speaker icon on your taskbar, go to recording devices, right click your mic, go to properties, go to the last tab, and uncheck "give applications exclusive whatever"

if this doesnt work you got issues with the cable/inputjack

addendum:

I am not encouraging anybody to not go to college, but I am encouraging them to look into average starting salaries for your degree and not going just because you want a piece of paper that says you did in a low payout major.

It's better to not go than to go, drop out halfway through, and have unpaid student loans.
