#30 Filipino 400hour player, ready for comp? in TF2 General Discussion
n0govt has a rather low skill floor so once you hit 500 as long as you dont run into some div2s who want to go to govt and stomp youll have a grand time learning 6s and making friends

i dont see any 500 hr minimum on the page, or rules, so i'm guessing they kicked you out for no reason other than to improve their own pug experience.

you can try shana pugs, but there can be a few toxic players there, just ignore them if they're constantly shittalking and flaming you.

make sure you have mumble/discord for GOVT and mumble for shana! best of luck!

GOVT's own leader kicked me. Will try shana soon, thanks.

I was just kicked from the GOVT PUG server because they said the minimum hour count is 500. Is this true?

Tf2center never has any Asian servers.

himari_tfhttp://asiafortress.com/

the next step from pubs is pugs, here are some groups that host pugs in SEA
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/shanapugs
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=479320503
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/govtpug
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ChillyPunch

makes more sense for you to play comp in your own region, keep an open mind to improve and you'll do fine
gl

edit: regarding your concerns, asiafortress doesnt really host pugs anymore, and the skill level of the average pugger from the other groups is really bad, as long as you bother to put in the time to learn basic things like rocket-jumping and rollouts, theres not really a reason to be afraid, you only get better by playing against better players

I know that I will face players probably higher than me, but that's not my worry. What I'm really afraid of is that due to my lack of hours, I will immediately be kicked or thought of as the useless one that keeps dying.

Okay guys, now I'm asking: Is it possible to join a NA/EU team even thought I'm from Asia, provided I can show up at the right time?

driftaI gotta give it to ya, when I had 400 hours I had multiple clan tags and played on trade servers

Haha, well today I played a couple of casual and one or two pubs, one of them was a trade server but they had an option for deathmatches. So that was neat. Real bad players though.

Mostly I just spend time trying to improve by going on MGE or just regular games, but there's one trade server I like where I can just go against moderately formidable people while talking.

VulcanYou could always make your own team with players like you, make sure you understand strafing which is very important for scout, sniper is used frequently in competitive and you should keep on practiticing him, play some pugs or lobbies so you can see how you do in a competitive setting

What sucks is that I can't find any pugs or lobbies in the first place for my skill level. I'm pretty sure the second they realize I'm a 400 hour scrub they'll kick me or treat me as the drag that keeps dying.

All my friends either don't want any involvement in comp or are even worse than I am. I'll look into making my own team with online players though!

Poliphobiahmu and we can practice together! I have about 1k hours and just like you, I still have a lot to improve on, so we're on the same page here. Plus, it'd be great to have a practice buddy! :)

Hm, maybe we can!!

zanyYeah man I'd say you're absolutely ready. There isn't a set "hour requirement" for playing competitive tf2; technically you could play with 20 hours. (You just probably wouldn't have the best experience) If you feel like you have a basic grasp of the fundamentals of the game and you want to improve then go for it. I'm not too familiar with the scene over in Asia but I think asiafortress.com is sorta the main hub for comp tf2 over there. You can join a team thats looking for players for the start of the next season or find some like minded individuals and build a team yourself. Also if you're in the Philippines you may be able to play ozfortress (the australian league) but I'm not sure how your ping would be.

As for servers that you should spend your time on MGE servers are great for improving DM and jump servers will help your movement out a lot. DM servers are useful too (not sure how wide of a selection there is for asian players)

Good luck and have fun!

I have considered asiafortress, but I'm still skeptical about how friendly they are to noobs. Professional Asian gamers can be pretty aggressive in terms of attitude.

Aussie servers may also work out, but like I said before, I don't know what their community will think of people like me. I'm also not sure if I can even connect to it but I'll try!

I forgot to add some info, sorry.

I have been watching a lot of competitive videos, it's actually the one thing I use YouTube for. I have at least a basic understanding of everything, my only problem is my experience.

I main Scout, 95 hours on him, my highest recorded kill number is 60 something. Also Medic and Soldier, recently I've been dropping the classes I used to main like Sniper that aren't really necessary in competitive.

Valve comp is pretty much dead here. Technically I can't top score pubs because other people were there first and have gotten about 200 points by the time I arrive. But in general in 1 hour I can bag at least 70 points. Is that okay?

Ohoho, no, I can't rocket or sticky jump off walls for the life of me, only launch myself forward without walls.

i really doubt I'm ready for pubs or anything of the sort, since 400 hours is still 400 hours. Even if I am decent, I probably won't get to join a team due to my hour count.

All I ask for is a way to play games for around my level or just slightly higher that are actually serious and are not casual.

I live in the Philippines, and here valve comp matchmaking is pretty much hopeless to queue up for. I have 400 hours on TF2 and I'm tired of killing clueless Asian Pyros on Singaporean servers. I've done a few pubs and I'm pretty ok at it (avg. 40 kills/20 deaths ratio). I've also spent some time on MGE.

My problem with casual is that that's where all the 2-hour noobs are and there's no team effort or cooperation.

Pubs are just a little better and provide more of a challenge, but there's always some twist to every server like some loud music blaring or roll-the-dice stuff. No seriousness whatsoever.

My MGE skill needs improvement, I'll admit, but that's 1v1. I'm aiming for a TEAM that will take things SERIOUSLY.

As I said before, whenever I try to queue up for valve comp my region ping is pretty much crap and I can't connect to any servers. So that's out of the question.

Am I ready to finally do competitive? If not, what kind of servers should I spend more time on and why? Thanks.
