it doesn't work on sv_cheats 0, there's no way to remove the map shadows on sv_pure 2/cheats 0 i believe. dx8 might make them less noticeable

try mastercomfig which uses dx 9 and is generally believed to be better than dx8 cfgs now
alternatively if you're on AMD the trails aren't there because AMD stopped dx8 support, so you could try downgrading to an older driver that did support dx8
