Hello! I'm Getawhale and tonight I'm doing the first episode of my show that I've been planning for months. It's called Whale Calls and it's a call-in show. That means that literally anyone can take part in the show by calling our toll-free number.

During this planning I've considered many formats, but I think I'm ready to finally go live this evening to see how it goes. The format for this evening is that we'll be interviewing and talking to our guest first, and then when that's done, moving on to just taking calls and playing TF2 with viewers.

This show isn't strictly about TF2 talk - it's anything goes. This is more like 10% Fully Charged, 90% WTF with Marc Maron.

Tonight's guest is slardel, well known competitive player, musician and all-around nice guy. We'll be giving away a Scattergun signed by slardel at the end of the stream, so there's that too.

This first episode is a test to see how the format works out, and make sure everything's good to go technically. I am hopeful to make this a weekly show with new guests every week.

3500 can be a bit on the high side. When I used to stream around that range, occasionally I'd get comments that peoples' systems/connections couldn't handle it. Twitch "officially" advises not to go above 3500. Their page here has some helpful info including a chart with recommended bitrates for OBS.

I always thought some of our streamers look like Snorlax (¬_¬ )

A lot of people actually set their game to play at 720p resolution - no downscaling then, less work.

What is your bitrate set to when you stream? I assume you use OBS, assuming you also use 30fps.

It seems unfortunate, but I can't imagine there are a lot of people who are surprised to hear this. Having a hard time getting an answer from ESEA on syncing map lists may have to be the new norm that we plan for.

Glad to see that you guys continue to try to make things better and easier for competitive teams and players - good to see real effort and real results. Hopefully with time, ESEA can see this and it can inspire ongoing positive progress and improvements for both companies.

Would love to see live cams watching each of the teams to capture big moments, big wins, any big reactions from the teams themselves. Especially during big matches or finals.

When I was doing STV commentaries on my YT channel, I looked at ways of doing this. Drawing within the video editor is slow as hell, and I didn't have the budget for a tablet so in the end I gave up and opted to just add colored rectangles to highlight areas.

It's neat to see there are other solutions that are software-based! Reminds me of the videos on Khan Academy for anybody familiar with that site.

Good find Slin.. as a guy coming from a sports broadcasting background, I think this could really add legitimacy and help the quality of any post-game content we put out here. Could be used in demo reviews, videos about map strategies for lower level players, all kinds of things. Hopefully people get in and play around with this.

I've been running Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 lately. Looking to do the first one soon as well.
