#176 Fantasy TF2: Let’s do this! in Projects

Not sure how this became a thing. I was echoing the sentiment expressed by Alkaline on the previous page.

I was just interested in having a reasonable discussion. Not sure why I thought I'd get that.

dummyWe should ask the community to solve everything.

No. You're wrong. I am not asking anybody to solve anything. Nothing needs to be solved.

I am suggesting others take part in this discussion, because I am humble to the fact that I am just one person. I can be wrong. So it's helpful in arguments to get feedback sometimes - to see if you're totally off-base, or if you're thinking the same thing as others.

So far most of what this thread has tonight is one dude who is biased towards Froyotech and who thinks he's always right, and that's completely useless.

I'm taking this to Steam chat if you're interested, because it's getting retarded now and I value this website.

So if Invite teams start running double sniper and Heavy strats and inappropriate Pyros on "unimportant matches", and play Vaccinator on Medic when they don't even know how to use that medigun, because they want Fantasy points, do you think that represents a problem or not? I am asking you because that is how debates work dummy. And I am asking for the community's view because without the community and Twitch chat, there is no competitive TF2 scene is there?

We all have our own ways of winning arguments I guess!

If a medic going Vaccinator in an Invite match to get Fantasy points is fine with you, it's fine with me. No need to attack my character or call me entitled.

Well I know from b4nny's chat that I wasn't alone in disliking tonight's match, and I'd love it if other people could think about it and post their opinions as well.

dummyIn a perfect world, yes, everyone plays their heart out and its a 5-4 nail biter. But in the real world there are going to be matches where the world champions might fuck around because theyre not being paid to play this trivial match against team goldfish

I'm not asking for 5-4 every game.

If they're not paid enough to play this trivial match.. then why the fuck are they playing it dummy? If players don't care enough to take it seriously, why are they even playing?

I know that you have a good point in there somewhere, but this whole "trivial match" shit doesn't fit with that. b4nny isn't the end all and be all, but he seems to take the game reasonably seriously; I'm wondering what his thoughts on this are, because I watched him during the match. I'd also love to hear from cafe monster members.

dummyis this actually serious? im genuinely asking because i cant fathom anyone being seriously upset about this. The stakes are lower than ever in invite, and on top of that it's a random regular season match vs a team that they can apparently beat with double sniper (i didn't watch it but thats what it sounds like here)

As disappointing as it might be to watch that match, what on earth were you even expecting going into it? Are you upset you didn't get to see a sub 10 minute 5-0 that should've happened? Being slightly annoyed about it is one thing, but I can't wrap my head around making this a big deal.

A 3peat ESEA LAN/World champion team playing an online match with a standin vs a rookie invite team in a season that probably has the least stakes in years. At this point theyre just playing a video game and trying to have fun?

I think people are more concerned because these are supposed to be eSports. And if a team did shit like this in REAL spectator sports.. it would be ridiculous. What if a hockey or basketball player wanted to pad his stats so he just shot the ball or the puck every time he got it, no matter where he was. Is that sports? Is there no such thing as the spirit of the game?

If I were to take a stance, I'd say keep the shenanigans to your scrims or pugs. Good times. Fun, it's a game, etc. But I think it's disrespectful and unsportsmanlike to fuck around like that. If you paid 85 bucks to fuck around like that, people aren't going to want you on their team very long. And opponents aren't going to have a shred of respect for you.

Froyotech can do it and still win. But what would happen if a medic on another Invite team decided to go Vaccinator to pad their fantasy stats? How long do you think that team lasts as a group?

#6 New Overwatch in-game video in Other Games

I'm sort of left with more questions after watching this

I don't.. get it

This seems a lot more esoteric than just "guns and fire and explosions". I guess this character is just throwing around energy? What are the domes of light around shit? I'm seeing lightning and shit.. it seems difficult to track what is hurting you. You're not hearing bullets or explosion noises.. you're just hearing a bunch of whooshes and sounds and you need to learn what they are.

I'm sure it's a fine game. I'm just not sure this video does much.

All I know is Froyotech just gave up 3 rounds to cafe monster.. the most they've given up in the regular season in almost a full year..

Because some members wanted fantasy points

#13 new reduced stream delay option in Off Topic
Foxit's going to be for partners only initially

they are testing it on partners first as a beta test, and then they are releasing it for everyone else

#11 new reduced stream delay option in Off Topic
dashner"Because less video is queued on a viewer’s computer, they will be more susceptible to variations in download bandwidth, and may experience more interruptions in service while video buffers."

Not my decision, but I don't see it being worth it for TFTV to use this for casts depending on how bad the above issues are.

I realize it's not back to the way it was yet. I just long for those days. Hopefully they keep going.

SideshowThe delay on my stream is more like 35 seconds, it's ridiculous. Great step forward from Twitch assuming it works and doesn't just make everyone's stream buffer all the time.

That seems like an extreme outlier. Although I'll admit, I'm not sure if I've checked delays for people connecting to Euro servers. How often have you measured it?

EDIT: Just looked at 6 different streams in Euro countries and the highest delay I saw was 15 seconds. YOU GOT ISSUES MATE

#2 new reduced stream delay option in Off Topic

This is very exciting. Just so people get an idea, the average delay I've seen on most streams is about 12 seconds. So this would mean going from about 12 to 8 (for most cases, not all)

Still significant, still great, and a step in the right direction. As a caster, I long for the days when I could see specifically what my cameraman was showing viewers.
