#22 Top 10 TF2 plays - August 2014 in Videos
AlmieI am with YouTube commenters on this one. One thing I hate when people do is glorifying mediocre frags based on context and division. I really couldnt give a single fuck if its harbleu killing invite/prem players at LAN or some no-name div5 scrub doing the same thing. You say it's more difficult to pull off frags on high level players, well for you or me, yes, but not for another high level player.

Div5 player airshotting a div5 player is just as difficult FOR HIM as a prem player airshotting a prem player is difficult FOR THE PREM PLAYER. Therefore, I dont see why we should care about the context of the frag, when if you take the context away its just a mediocre frag done many times before. Contrary to what many people on this forum seem to think, prem/invite players are just people and they also get fragged, yet people seem to jizz over every little airshot just because it happened in a high level game.

I will probably get minus fragged to death for this post, but whatever.

I agree that a frag is a frag. The mechanical skills to perform moves are generally the same, regardless of what division you play in.

#2 Buy a classy shirt for $12; help a 4v4 TF2 event! in TF2 General Discussion

These shirts look amazing and seem like an awesome deal!

For people that have never heard of this group, it's well worth your while to check them out. They came out of basically nowhere this year and ran a very successful 64 team TF2 tournament (their second) which didn't get a ton of attention. Was very good to see a team of people who were hard-working, knew what they were doing and delivered in a big way.

These guys are not all talk - they're legit. The more groups like this we can have in our game, the better.

Looks very similar to getting stuck on the power lines and shooting over the wall into spawn on Upward

#12 Shooting at canadian parliament in Off Topic

I work in news radio and yeah today is bonkers

We've been live all day with updates and talking to people who were at Parliament when this happened.. local MP's, etc. It's crazy. There was video of gunfire in the Parliament building. It's all pretty hard to believe, especially here in Canada.

#8 looking to start shoutcasting in TF2 General Discussion
radiumI find that things often turn out well when you have a co-caster or two to speak about the game at hand. A good idea for you may be to find a co-caster with a good deal of experience to help with the technical commentary.

This is good advice.

I would say

1. Get some experience before you do anything.

Some people came into TF2 casting with experience casting real sports, some people came into it with experience casting e-sports. If you don't have any of that, you may want to just get into that practice of talking for 30-45 minutes first and covering action. Find STV's to cast either through UGC (they make it really easy) or ETF2L or whatever you can find.

And then 2. Reach out and make connections.

I first made contacts through UGC, which then led me to Blackout Gaming where I cast a lot of Euro, which then led me to eXtv and TFTV. Just make connections however you can - send emails or private messages, show an interest. This way you get to work with all sorts of different people, learn as you go, and improve as you go.

Best of luck!

#8 a big thank you in TF2 General Discussion

I brought a dress shirt and two ties to GXL and regret not wearing them! I was expecting casual dress, and Lange thought the same, and then this handsome man comes and shows everybody up! I'll know for next time.

+1 for Stylin'

#61 How long have you been around? in Off Topic

Gonna just write this out for myself to record it somewhere

Got the game Christmas 2007 with Orange Box. First memory of the game is playing drunk on Christmas Eve with real life friends. Memories of all sorts of weird maps that I've never seen since.

Might have played it a bit, then in fall 2008 I moved away to college. So from 2008-2009 I couldn't play because I was in residence with shit internet.. couldn't play Xbox games, let alone TF2 on PC.

2009 I came back for a while, and played in a pub community called The Lost Continents, a community which is known for having a big part in playtesting cp_steel (see the poster in that and other maps with our name on it) and also for bringing us some old school comp guys like Warpy and Orzo, as well as djc. I played pubs and pickup Highlanders in that community until I moved back home in 2011.

Then I moved in with a girl, lived there from the end of 2011 til the start of 2013. Didn't touch TF2 during that time. It was worth it - women are cool. But I did miss the glory days of comp during this time, regrettably. Wish I could have been there.

Spring 2013 I came back to the Lost Continents. Joined my first comp team, played in UGC a couple seasons. Started playing pickup sixes as well with some guys like slardel, kent, trisk, gls, whoever was around the community then. Figured in September that I could apply my broadcasting skills to the game I love, went ahead and did it and now through hard work, here I am.

Still growing, still working hard, still lots of room for improvement. I've done a ton of learning about historical players and teams during the time I missed, and would still like to do more.

#6 NA TF2 Winter LAN: What's next after GXL? in LAN Discussion
BenkMaybe i'm in the minority on this but all i'm really interested in doing at a lan is chilling with my friends from this game, playing some tf2, and eating shitty fast food. I can visit a city whenever I want.

I think that when meeting TF2 friends, it follows naturally to want to drink and have a good time with them. This, in turn, sort of leads to wanting to hit a bar/pub/whatever. There may be a few people who are not old enough or not interested in this (ps, drinking age in Canada is 19), but I think wanting to have a couple drinks is the norm; some may want one drink or to just watch folks drink, some may want a shitload with a straw.

This point alone sort of puts me in the Montreal boat if these are the two options.
