#14 unbelieveable in The Dumpster

Firstly, tell us a little about yourself!

-How old are you?
-What's your favorite movie and why?
-Who are some of the people you admire and why?
-What's something you wish more people would understand?

#76 Discussion on the Abuse of Power in our Community in The Dumpster
gemmthis isn't reddit, frags dont do shit except fuel nerd stars and let you know what the hivemind thinks. the dumpster is a good way for people to opt out of shitposts (or just shit posts) if you dont wanna see them

That's fine and I understand the need for it but, for example, do you think a thread like this belongs in the dumpster? A thread for appealing the unjust ban of one of its members with a clear supported argument and zero fuckery? Certainly not! The fact that it is makes it clear that the admins are using it as a means of censorship. I know this is a small site is for underwater basket weaving but that doesn't make it any less fair, just or - dare I say - moral.

#53 Discussion on the Abuse of Power in our Community in The Dumpster

Ever since the dumpster was introduced I knew the adminstration started taking a wrong turn. Don't like a thread? That's fine but why is there a need to move it to a special category filled with threads you deem unworthy? If a thread is shit it will be downfragged and ignored which takes care of the problem. Does it make you feel better knowing you're bringing this forum one step closer to the prestine vision you have of what it should be?

It's fine to have standards but banning pank for recommending Elliott for a baby's name is clear abuse of power. You're an administrator, who's sole job is to ensure that rules aren't being broken. What you aren't is a teacher; you don't dictate what kind of discussions should be had in the classroom. You don't ban someone for expressing their views - I don't care how dumb or contreversial it is, the content doesn't matter as long as they aren't breaking rules.

Seems to me this forum has become a playground for some folk to pick and choose which content they like and censor the rest behind some extremely vague rules. Try hard enough and anything can be "bigotry". I propose the adminstration ge rid of the dumpster, go back in the shadows and let the discussion flow organically.

That being said, posting here is a privilege so at the very least I'm happy thebilldozer is bringing this to light.

#41 I think I have a problem. in Off Topic

The drug itself is not nearly as relevant as the intent preceding the action. Yeah you "want" to get to high but why? What are the triggers? This is crucial to understanding your addiction. It is the series of thoughts that you've manufactured in your head, which you've become accustomed to, that is what is the root of your addiction.

For example, let's say you're depressed and you've created a routine in which every time you feel depressed you want to get fucked up to make yourself feel better. If you're depressed often what do you think will happen?

The answer isn't "don't be depressed" or "stop wanting to get fucked up" but it's dealing with your depression head on instead of putting it off. Not saying it's easy, if you've been putting it off for a long time it's like looking in the mirror for the first time in 4 years and realizing you are, in fact, 400 lbs. Of course it could be anything; depression, loneliness, hurt pride, envy...

IMO a healthy way to look at drugs is to use them for celebration. Have you done something awesome recently? Awesome man roll a joint. This will tap into your reward system and will forge a new "series of thoughts" that will actually propel you in a direction you want to go. This isn't easy either as it requires discipline, no mental gymnastics, no "i just had a bad day" rationale. If you can't do that then cold turkey is the way to go.

hope this helps
