#51 How is this happening in World Events
PhunkI'm voting for Jill Stein fuck all this

Please do not vote for Stein. Just read her platform and you'll see the only reason she's getting any sort of attention is because so many people don't like the other candidates. Her plans for policy, while I agree with some of them, are just so extremely far left that it would basically be impossible for her to do anything.

Besides that, just look at her experience. The only real office she's held is Lexington Town Meeting Representative. Something that she received by getting ~500 votes in some local thing.

Stein has failed at running for governor of massachusetts twice, failed at running for the house of representatives, and failed at running for secretary of the commonwealth. Then after these failures, she decides to run for president? Too me that just looks like someone who is totally disillusioned. I just don't understand how people actually think this is someone who is fit to be our president.

Also I know someone else has mentioned this, but I feel like people are always forgetting it. This next president will be able to appoint at least two new supreme court justices, and basically swing the supreme court to extreme left or extreme right. So if you're in one of the #NeverTrump or #NeverHillery camps, please just take this into account when you vote. This election will have consequences far past the 4-8 years the candidate has in office, basically for a good part of many of the people who post here's life. So if you hate either of the candidates, but agree with conservative or democratic politics, just bite the bullet and vote for your candidate.

#41 Any good movies you've watched recently? in Off Topic
wruI've never watched any of the daniel craig-era james bond movies and after watching skyfall last week I can say it's my top3 fav james bond movie now, bardem goes fucking nuts in this one, pretty good flick would recommend if you haven't seen it, yet so see casino royale tho

Skyfall is great. Don't bother with the most recent one though, it's really pretty bad imo.

redi-Swiss army man is such an amazing movie. Snowpiercer is amazing as well, and done by a smaller producer/director.

Second that, Snowpiercer is great. It's actually a Korean production which is cool, because Korean cinema doesn't make it to the US very often.

BBiA_duchessAlso if no one has seen it. 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Russel Crowe is one of the most underrated movies ever

Not to be pedantic, but 3:10 to Yuma is not underrated at all. It got great ratings, what it didn't do though was perform in boxoffices, it didn't even make it's budget back.

Anyways as for good movies that have come out recently,

Swiss Army Man is very good, and probably one of the most orginal films you'll see in a while.

Midnight Special is a great Indie sci fi film.

The Lobster is super arty, but if you can deal with a bit of arthouse, it's a great watch, also extremly orginal.

The End Of The Tour is a very interesting look at David Foster Wallace. Don't have to know anything about him really to enjoy it. I haven't read any of his books but it's still one of my favorite movies of the past few years.

Steve Jobs is incredibly well written and exciting to watch. Great acting and soundtrack as well.

The Martian. Cool mars/nasa movie.

Dope. Hilarious movie about black nerds in the hood.

The Big Short is great.

please help my man barycenter, he has a match to carry me in on monday!

edit: I know you probably tried this, but everything I see when I google the error says it's an issue with graphics drivers, so it's probably worth updating/rolling those back.

#7 GXL in LAN Discussion
drshdwpuppetIf anyone knows of a LAN event that they think would be a good venue for a tf2 tournament the size of gxl, let me know. I am willing to admin and run a tournament and liaise with LAN organisers to make it happen.

I assume FITES lan is still happening? They've always been happy to host tf2.

#22 Valve to start shutting down gambling sites in TF2 General Discussion
trashyeah past the standard "don't enforce gambling addiction" laws idc about adults doing this stuff, but to that end I should point out: the legal argument on this for the longest time was always "well it's not technically currency so it's ok", so the arguments on ethics, while still valid, proves that this still ends up being a more roundabout way of playing with chance for money

I remember a lot of people on reddit thinking the related lawsuit couldn't possibly go anywhere, it was kinda funny considering how easy it seemed on the prosecution's end

I don't think that lawsuit did go anywhere, legally speaking. I'm sure Valve did this because of the massive outcry and the bad press they were getting in the news.

#1 Valve to start shutting down gambling sites in TF2 General Discussion

http://store.steampowered.com/news/22883/

In 2011, we added a feature to Steam that enabled users to trade in-game items as a way to make it easier for people to get the items they wanted in games featuring in-game economies.

Since then a number of gambling sites started leveraging the Steam trading system, and there’s been some false assumptions about our involvement with these sites. We’d like to clarify that we have no business relationships with any of these sites. We have never received any revenue from them. And Steam does not have a system for turning in-game items into real world currency.

These sites have basically pieced together their operations in two-part fashion. First, they are using the OpenID API as a way for users to prove ownership of their Steam accounts and items. Any other information they obtain about a user's Steam account is either manually disclosed by the user or obtained from the user’s Steam Community profile (when the user has chosen to make their profile public). Second, they create automated Steam accounts that make the same web calls as individual Steam users.

Using the OpenID API and making the same web calls as Steam users to run a gambling business is not allowed by our API nor our user agreements. We are going to start sending notices to these sites requesting they cease operations through Steam, and further pursue the matter as necessary. Users should probably consider this information as they manage their in-game item inventory and trade activity.

Pretty big deal considering csgolounge contributes a massive amount of viewers to matches.

#18 UGC hosting Overwatch League? in Other Games
aurora_why would anyone play this over the weekly gosu and other small (yet not shit) tournys for a 0$ prizepool

This isn't tf2 anymore, the playerbase is massive. Overwatch has ability to support tons of leagues, so even if it's not wildly successful, I'm sure it will have some appeal.
