Shiftalucrativejerking himself off by stating actual facts? id love to hear you prove him wrong here as nothing he said in this thread is untrue.
It's pretty annoying how sigafoo tries to shoehorn rgl's amazing success into every single post he makes when everyone knows the only reason it gained traction is because of having a prize pool. Why not have a small prize pool for this new map tournament? It would do a lot more to help competitive tf2 and even be less of a meme than other rgl tournaments.
call it whatever you want, when it comes to the comments in this thread hes made about RGL he hasn't misstated anything. there wasn't a prize pool made for this tournament because there wasnt a great way to have the maps played a fair amount while also having a format that could determine a winner in the time period we had to run this before ESEA happened. it was obviously something we would have ideally wanted to do but not always possible.
The format youre suggesting is essentially what ive been running doing new map pugs for months but its even hard to get people to play in those, let alone full teams that want to scrim or play new maps.
nazarasigafooman do you really have to stop jerking yourself off every other sentence

RebiteI feel like having signups during the end of a season really handicapped this league. While i wasn't playing i assume the usual "every team in esea dies and reforms" was going on for the final 2 weeks/offseason. Trying to get people to figure out teams for this new weird map league thing while their current team is dying/dead really hampered signups, especially when people could just wait two weeks for when everyone is lft and doesn't have commitments to scrims/teams.
When it was first pitched I was excited because I assumed it would run during the regular season and teams could dedicate one or two scrims to playing on new maps.
also lul sigafoo xd
also also lul change in the tf2 scene
there is really no winning here.
hold is during the season, teams wouldn't play because of ESEA schedule and I highly doubt teams would dedicate some practice to new maps while juggling esea, 7s and HL (although its possible)
holding it in the offseason is the most reasonable time for people to actually play the new maps because they dont have to dedicate all their time playing their esea maps. along with the fact the off season is usually a good testing period for the new maps and if they can be added to leagues.
We will revisit this another time soon hopefully

this post did not age well
ya i did stop reading.
I guess ill clarify by saying its about general player base not just about open signups, also doubling our team count in open is most definitely an exaggeration that did not happen lol and im talking about actual teams, not counting the teams that don't even play a game during the season. Everyone includes them in the team count but never realize half the amount of the original signups are dead by the end of season.
ESEA wants teams to keep playing not just sign up and dip
samifacehoolishould we tell him
i laughed until i cried, and then i just cried
also i recall being told in a recent season that if we got enough signups in open they'd bring it back, so we doubled signups and instead they cut down our prizepool so i'm not putting a ton of hope there.
This.
tri stated multiple times that if the volume of the teams increase overall then ESEA would really consider bringing back the LAN
THE POTENTIAL HERE IS TOO DAMN HIGH
MikeMatlucrativeYou always complain that new maps never get played but you're in favor of the system that makes it so new maps never get played
saying im just complaining seems like you're implying I just voice an opinion about these things and nothing else, Im one of the only people initiating map development for 6v6 and engaging mappers with the community so they don't all disappear from a lack of interest and you all end up playing granary and badlands for the rest of your life (which is what people actually complain about). I might complain, but I'm comfortable saying i'm the only person trying to actually do anything about it (along with the regular testers).
In regards to your comment about the system, I personally don't think forcing teams to play new maps is a way to make them like them or want to pick them up. The old system is better for "fun" since you get to play all the maps but you objectively cannot argue that having control over the maps you focus your practice on and having control over the maps you choose to play in matches is not a more competitive format, you can't. There isn't a legit competitive FPS being played right now that forces teams to play certain maps. adaptability is an underrated aspect of high level play in any sport or eSport and its an aspect of almost every competitive game that's played except ours. This is something I think TF2 is missing in terms of teams attitudes (in general) towards wanting to play new maps, teams should be looking to pick up new maps and practice them to include them in their pool when another team doesn’t. What happens right now is everyone pugs and practices the same 5 maps and no one makes any map outside of that their staple map which might draw a ban while your team can ban out the more popular maps.
New maps are likely going to be the only new content we will be able to bring into the game and forcing maps into a week of rotation didn't work in the past (most maps never stuck around that were added) and propaganda thrived this season in the current format and I believe teams in general liked the map.
This of course is all opinions based around the format being as competitive as possible, if the vast majority of teams just play for fun then ya, forced map rotation is better. if this isn't the case id love to hear some points other than "you get to play all the maps" being the major benefit of the old system.
This is super cool man thanks for doing this!
yightlucrativeScratchhDaggerweekly map rotation????PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 1 MAP PER 2 MATCHES PLEASE
New system is far superior in my opinion, has way more benefits overall even though it’s not perfect. I think the map pool prolly should just be increased to boost the variance of the maps played
lol
maybe you could elaborate? I just think forcing teams to play maps they don't want to play along with not having control over who you play on those maps is a good system. along with practicing a map then not playing it again for 8 weeks, this system allows you to practice your specific map pool.
what exactly are the major benefits from a forced rotation? genuinely curious seeing as your response was pretty short.

AthletickWhy did this get cancelled? There was like 20 teams which is enough imo and me and my friends were really looking forward to playing this.
there was 2-3 full open teams and that was it, it was cancelled precisely for the lack of interest.
Im really upset about it, and I think its a major mistake to look over an opportunity like this to bring in new content to the competitive scene. The mappers have worked super hard to create these maps that are more than capable of being played in a top competitive setting, but sadly the stubbornness of the general 6v6 community is once again ruining a chance to bring in new content.
There was no reason to be not involved with this, I specifically reached out to many teams who could have played and just "didn't feel like it." Amazing that the same player base that complains about lack of updates, content and how bad ESEA is are not willing to support an initiative that brings in new content and a new league expansion.
best Demo in IM next season
