#8 Newbie Mixes ? in TF2 General Discussion
mochadashtmwhat about a public mumble where new players and coaches get matched up to watch the LAN and the new players can ask questions? that kind of thing would be really cool. This did happen during the last LAN but no plans were made to do it this LAN. If any of the organizers and coaches are available to do this, I totally recommend it.

i can definitely help organize, i'd prefer not to coach but i could if we needed more of them.

r/eSports is another subreddit that gets some activity once in a while, an x-post there would maybe help.

downpourValve will not start supporting competitive outside of highlander.
stop hoping they will.
A fundraiser for a charity event does not mean they'll make any money out of competitive TF2.
just stop.

with that attitude they never will

fraacDid this. If there's a better picture I can steal, pls link. Also does anyone have the current TF2 boss' email address at Valve?

tfteam@valvesoftware.com is pretty reliable, I've contacted it in the past and received responses.

#444 UGC Admin TF2_Moose VAC Banned in TF2 General Discussion
DrPloxodashtmDrPloxoIt's possible it was something else. But we can definitely say 2 things:
1. Valve bans for open plugin use now.
2. Moose was high-profile enough to create questions about what he was banned for.

A logical conclusion was that they banned for OpenPlugin, and picked somebody that would make enough of a ruckus among the community that people may preemptively disable it.
So it's a warning shot. If it was something else, so be it. But it's likely that they banned for this exact purpose.
This. Is. Not. How. VAC. Works. Valve has used manual VAC bans only once and it was in a VERY special circumstance. They are not going to ban one person (a "high-profile user") for this. If they did why didn't they ban MGE Mike or something? The plugin is HUGE in Europe and that would have sent a huge shockwave out.
true enough, maybe they just decided to use vac for it after the controversy (it's been like a week, right?)

they haven't decided to use vac, they're threatening to use vac. they're saying something along the lines of "if you use similar exploits to get around -insecure we will add them to the blacklist and your steam account will get vac banned. consider this a warning."

HueyLewisSo, because I'm a technical noob, what about other plugins that require -insecure? Specifically Blue's spectator outline plugin, which I'm guessing should still be ok since you only connect to STVs with it. I have to cast and don't particularly want to risk anything without knowing for sure...

stv servers are not vac secure so this does not affect bluee's plugin afaik.

FogDoes this make moose's statement more valid?

STAY TUNED!

copying what i wrote in the other thread:

how is it a warning shot? who else was vac banned for using this plugin?

moose was NOT vac banned for openplugin. either he modified it or ran it wrong somehow, or there is something he is not telling us.

nobody else has been banned for openplugin so it wasn't that.

#7 New update (rip openplugin?) in TF2 General Discussion
Added ConVar sv_motd_unload_on_dismissal to allow server ops to control the default behavior of their MOTD

i don't like the sound of this at all

hookyP-REC is unaffected, right? I'm pretty sure it's certified.

no it is not affected, p-rec is a signed plugin and does not need -insecure.
