Wait, hold up. You're telling me that stultus, who hasn't posted a serious thread since the very inception of tf.tv, posted a joke thread, and people of our extremely small community took it seriously.
C'mon.

Pretty late response, but what is that hud? Or can I at least get the name of the font?

mhow come threads making fun of annoying/attention seeking gamers who happen to be girls get closed and shit like this gets left open?
at least this thread has a cool gif in the OP. it may be downhill from there, but that other thread was shit from the get-go.
kirbyobe_"bitch"
Coming from a guy who is a part of a gaming community that tend to excessively use the words "raped", "faggot", "thundercunt", "shitlord", "fuck(ed/er/ing)", etc. I guess we're not real gamers :'(
What point are you trying to make here? I personally can't stand hearing "raped" and "faggot" in comms, and a ton of comp TF2 players/viewers also don't appreciate that language (iirc there was a small debacle where clckwrk said "faggot" live on a cast and there was a big backlash to that), so I don't see why you're lumping me with the part of this community that uses "raped" as an acronym for "damaged" (or, really, any comp gaming community; it's not like those terms are exclusive to ours, unfortunately).
And also I have no idea why you said "I guess we're not real gamers" tbh. My use of quotations around "real gamers" was admittedly poorly used; I was just trying to imply that there is NO SUCH THING as a "real gamer" or a "fake gamer." It wasn't connected with his overuse of "bitch" and "nigga".
e: apologies to alfunkso for posting. You posted as I was typing this :(
cool video. a loud and inarticulate 18 year old trying spending 8 minutes attempting to speak on behalf of "real gamers" while incessantly overusing the words "bitch" and "nigga", while simultaneously expressing his own deep seated inadequacy by complaining about "fake gamers" getting more subs than he ever will.
"look how i smart i talk huehue"
and in his "follow up" he claims that girls showing off their assets is equivalent to prostitution (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sXng1QUAoc&t=1m45s). what a joke. visual prostitution is not a thing.
i don't usually mind the youtube threads but this is trash. shame on you if you posted this as a non-joke.
Fair warning: this is just a longer version of brah's post (#5). He has a lot of quick tips that I agree with, but feel free to read on if you want my take on them.
In my experience I start to feel unmotivated and unhappy during extended periods of just loafing around the house and not being around or interacting with irl friends. I love the dudes I know online, but chatting over steam is not the same as calling up a friend to chat or hitting the movies.
I typically get myself out of the dumps by doing just that: interacting with the friends I know irl. Even if it's just having a short convo over text, it makes me feel a lot better. Super bonus points if I can get a small group together and we just chill out, order some takeout, and play games all night.
I'd also recommend going outside if it's a really nice day, take a short jog, then come back inside for a nice shower to cool back down. All of my friends swear that I'm nuts because I love running to cheer myself up, but other than driving, there's NOTHING better than pumping some fun, happy tunes while jogging around. People always say that running sucks because you get sweaty but a shower is an easy fix and the whole experience is just rejuvenating. I find it hard to be down on myself after a good run.
To be honest, if you're feeling down, I strictly recommend against playing video games. It's pretty unhealthy escapism and honestly stops working after a while. Lately I've been finding myself just being more sad that I'm making myself better by locking myself in my room and staring at a computer screen for several hours. That's just me though.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don't think of ANYTHING in this thread as a chore to make yourself feed better because you'll just take the genuine enjoyment out of it all. Cheering yourself up isn't a job, so don't treat it like one. Just avoid a deliberate state of mind.
I altered my power settings a bit. It was on "Balanced" by default but I changed the graphic settings so that they provide maximum performance when plugged in. I'm hoping that'll change things.
Running tf2 w/ the integrated graphics seemed to work okay. I broke 30 frames and started playing around my usual 60ish but it still dips below 30 at times which is still highly unusual.
My cores are currently around the 45 celcius mark.
Thanks for the help so far guys. I'm trying everything you're throwing at me!
I have an i5-3210M @ 2.5ghz, 8gb of ram, and a GeForce GT 630M. I have an integrated intel hd 4000 but I'm almost positive I have things set up to run tf2 with the GeForce. Either way the intel hd 4000 should blow tf2 away if I'm running highframes.
Not the greatest hardware in the world, and yes this is a laptop, but this thing should be able to give me >30 average fps w/ drops if I'm running chris' highframes config. Besides, I've only recently started having issues. I stopped playing tf2 for a good week and a half or so, and last night when I hopped on, my usual frames were completely halved and I kept dipping below 20 which is just ridiculous.
I play 1366 x 768, windowed noborder. Never had problems before last night. All of my drivers are up to date too. I am baffled.
Wow it's one thing to -frag and move on but some people in this thread went out of their way to complain about somebody trying to post some fun content. "Useless" and "unfunny" are subjective so chill. I found the video enjoyable so thanks for sharing.
As far as TF2 goes I regret maining spy. I'm serious. In like mid 2010 I started following the comp scene, when all comp tf2 had to its name was eXtine and his shitty mic, and gotfrag was a thing (that, as a casual viewer, I avoided like the plague). I played a couple lobbies as scout then decided that this game was too hard and started playing spy instead. I played a lot of spy, then made a team with my friend in s5 (blunderful). Didn't work out, stopped playing competitively and fucked around on pubs instead for a solid year and a half, and now I'm just a nameless mediocre player and I don't excel at anything at all.
I just wonder how good I could be if I had kept playing scout from mid 2010 to now, or how knowledgeable I'd be of the comp scene if I had followed it more closely. I started watching early but I didn't follow it much. It sucks to see people who have played less than me or haven't been "around" as long as I have be leagues better than me just because I never put in the time or effort to be good at a video game. What does it say about a person when they're too lazy to get good at playing video games?
a lot of really simple origin stories on this thread lol
my full alias is obeliskos. I think I saw it on a scoreboard for a game on nickelodeon's website, then I used it when I made my first gamefaqs account in 2007 or some wack shit. I've gone by tons of different aliases (especially in my time playing tf2) but obeliskos has always stuck.
I shortened it to obe because everybody took to calling me that. then I added an underscore to be cool.
I'm not having the problem, so we'll have to see if that fix works out for him... that'd be an interesting solution though.
He posted a screenshot of his folder. Everything looked right. Pretty sure it's a linux-specific issue.
Having a problem with maps. I go to create a listen server and my downloaded maps aren't there. I backed them up but to my knowledge I shouldn't need to worry about that. I checked the downloads folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\download\maps) and my maps are there but they just aren't showing up ingame. What's up?
