I don't wanna use adblock because I want to support the community with a couple cents because valve doesn't give it any of the 2 million a day they make. But I can't because I get redirected to (bad) porn sites and scams.
KerchThis is a major issue and so easy to change, but I wouldn't spam Valve about it. It's much better if one person sends a well written e-mail, preferably someone the TF2 team know and have replied to before.
So nobody
KevinIsPwnthe301stspartanAlso, not sure what you mean by "you cannot hold the "ra" sound"? You can hold the r as long as you want, you did it yourself?i definitely held out the "ah" sound, after the actual R. big difference. and yes, there are more ways to pronounce an R, just like there are more ways to pronounce anything. i didn't mention it because it had no relevance to the question.
i am definitely not going to get in an argument about the letter R today though so bye
Did u just try to walk away from someone in a forum post? Don't fool urself, you're gonna read this thread anyway.
What I was trying to say is that you can hold the "r" sound in "ra" for as long as you like.
And the different r sounds are not just a matter of pronouncing them differently; they're very much different consonants. Just pointed it out for anyone interested even if you might not be. Don't see a reason for your agressive demeanor.
lootDoesn't asking for help like this defeat the purpose of a college admission essay?
No, you get help in college and after, too.
There are actually many more than 2 r-sounds. Depending on how you define them, there's at least 3 very distinct ones (the ones you mentioned plus the uvular r you have in German or French) and several variations of them in different languages.
Also, not sure what you mean by "you cannot hold the "ra" sound"? You can hold the r as long as you want, you did it yourself?
I think the easiest way to do the rolled r for the first time is to do a sustained sh sound (as in shit), then adding voice to it, then just sliding the tip of ur tongue slightly forward. I guess everyone's mouth is different tho.
Adnurakthe301stspartan-Do you have proof of the intelligence of yourself and your mates? In fact, can you indisputably back up your claim that intelligence is hereditary in the first place (you can't)
Intelligence is generally estimated to be between 60 and 80% heritable. That being said, it still isn't appropriate to put on an essay such as this.
And where exactly does that percentage come from? What would a scientific study look like whose result is "probably 60-80% intelligence are heritable"? Who generally estimates this and why? This is not a consensus. It's a debated topic in several fields and being studied with many opposing theories and speculations around. Which is why I say you can't indisputably make such a claim. I'm not saying either way is right or wrong, only that the OP can't really know either and thus shouldn't pretend to.
So if you're gonna use "I have intelligence in my DNA" as an argument at all (which you probably shouldn't, lol), you better be a top neurologist or psychologist who can back this up in a somewhat substantial way at least. In which case you probably already have better ways to show that you're smart though.
Just generally speaking, you should be able to verify what you write about yourself in an essay. This is not something the OP could verify, which makes it bad, among other reasons.
Turinyou don't need a thesaurus if you know the specifics of the word's meaning because that means you already know the word
You use the thesaurus if you know a word, but you want to express a different nuance of it and don't know the exact word you're looking for. Sometimes, the thesaurus reminds you of a word you know that's jsut what you're looking for. If not, you take all the words you don't know, put them in dictionary.com or whatever you use adn read the example usages until you've found the right one.
Also a great way to learn new words, much fun.
Mr_BaconYeahthe301stspartanI don't really have time to provide a more in-depth review, and never having applied for an american school, perhaps I shouldn't anyway. Also, sorry if the following sounds harsh; I think there are some good ideas and some nice writing in your essay.I was trying to be as honest as possible with them and tell them my upbringing, but now reading it for the second time it does come across as quite arrogant. There are many other traits i could have put in there talking about my uprbinging, but I wanted to come off as relatble
Just want to point out that if I was an admissions director, thisMost of us are well-off, living in an affluent area, of Christian faith, Caucasian, and with intelligence in our DNA. With all of these traits, there are so many opportunities laid out before us, and so many ways to get involved.
would instantly make me dumpster the application.
To elaborate on this, it's not just about the tone of the phrase. You should think about what you're actually trying to say if you believe you're being honest with this.
-Is your faith actually a trait that provides you with more opportunities? Why? Are you specifically applying at a christian college?
-Is your ethnicity a trait that provides you with more opportunities? Why? Is the caucasian/black/hispanic/asian model actually founded and has any real merit? Do you believe the college you're applying to is racist?
-Do you have proof of the intelligence of yourself and your mates? In fact, can you indisputably back up your claim that intelligence is hereditary in the first place (you can't)
These are all things you'd be asked in an assessment talk, if your application hadn't been dumpstered because these are actually not things they want to ask you in an assessment talk.

I don't watch much anime myself.
I'm proud to be subscribed to The Dumpster!
People aren't producing HUDs 24/7 and it takes a lot of time to make a good one.
TurinYou mention how the y-axis has no "proper" unit but completely gloss over the x-axis.
I gloss over it because nothing is wrong with it? I mean sure, it should technically be labelled, but it's quite obvious what it's supposed to represent here, as opposed to the y axis.
Also, what's the best chart for providing both total and individual prize pools over the course of a few years and while showing the rate of growth of the esport (slope)? The area chart is really your only option.
I'm not saying it's not the right chart for this or that it doesn't convey the information well. But area charts (as in linear ones like this one) are bad because they look confusing and almost everyone looking at one will mistake it for a line chart, as evidenced by this thread. And that's not because people are dumb or "bad at maths" but because line charts are much more common and because the design of an area chart is inherently convoluted and difficult to read as opposed to a line chart.
An easier to read option for this would be a stacked bar graph, since it's in fixed year steps. But my point wasn't that OP's chart is bad, but that it has to be made clear that it's an area chart if you're gonna use one, and that the readers cannot be blamed for mistaking it for a line chart.
