I sure hope not, I love KOTH and think it makes 6v6 really exciting to play/watch.

Mainline should get another look since it's kind of hard to evaluate a map when teams run two old-style-super-OP Natascha heavies.
Sunshine is a really beautiful map that looks like it could play well, but it has yet to be tested by actual teams as far as I know(although that's the problem with almost every custom map :/ ). For real though, a TF.TV sponsored tournament to test new maps would go a LONG way toward choosing quality maps for the season instead of rolling the dice like we do now.
Even though that GPU is pretty old now, it still shouldn't have a problem running TF2(especially with a gfx config). To go along with that, generally TF2 is CPU limited so I kind of doubt it's the capability of your GPU that's the problem. From what you described it almost sounds like something in your computer(either CPU or GPU) is overheating(albeit with some funky symptoms) so before you even look at new parts try giving your PC a good cleaning.
Now for the whole black screen issue, have you updated your Nvidia drivers recently? It sounds like Windows is recycling the video driver causing that black screen and device disconnected/connected sounds.
Out of curiosity what kind of machine are you running on right now(CPU/GPU/RAM)?
If you still want your game to look pretty nice but also get better fps, DX9 frames is the way to go. However if you also want to use dx8 on an Nvidia GPU you're forced to rollback to like two year old drivers(Nvidia 306.97 found here) so your textures don't flicker.
EDIT: looks like I was a bit late sorry :[
I really like Ash's idea of how to better deal with stickies in DM. Traps are 100% unnecessary/troll in DM but that doesn't mean people shouldn't have the chance to learn to aim and dodge stickies, and I feel that stickies with like a 1.5/2 second lifetime could work really well as a compromise.
This is a collaborative playlist of frag video music(right now it's mostly TF2 with songs from a few quake videos as well)

Anyone can add songs to it if they'd like!

Here is today's entire stream in one giant chunk. I'm sure it will be split up and uploaded to youtube in a few days or so.
They have to grab them at the actual event and throw them on a flash drive I think. Same with POVs as well.
Awesome article Admirable. It's always nice to see these gigantic write ups that summarize everything at the top for someone who doesn't follow the Euro scene closely.
If it makes anyone feel any better, this stream has informed me that we are all professional Team Fortress 2 players. Congratulations comp tf2 community.
I felt like the hulk rail jumping from our side of koth_king into the enemy spawn while going approximately 8 million miles an hour. I approve of this mod.
If you still wanted to see the video:
I don't think you need to worry about super jumps to make it more soldier friendly, there are ramps and walls aplenty. After taking a few minutes to roam the map you can get to mid/intel from spawn at like 29:49 on the clock. Demo gets there around the same time at :48, and scout gets there at like :46 to :44.
Also, the map/gamemode combo looks really fun and I hope we can find some people to play it over the weekend or something.
These videos are actually hilarious, I love them. It's wonderful to see TF2 through the eyes of someone who hasn't been playing the game for the past 2-5 years. Plus, if you keep making these videos consistently for a few weeks you'll be able to look back and see just how far you've progressed (and laugh quite a bit while doing so) in such a short amount of time.
