My way is kinda strange as well. I'm male so I sit down and lift my genitals and basically go under them and wipe from the back (nearest my back) to the front (nearest my gonads) and then when I'm done I do a quick wipe or two in the opposite direction just in case.
Never dunked my hand in nasty poo water or anything, my cheeks are spread nice and even and I always wipe until there's nothing so I am pleased with my wiping technique. I find if I wipe any other way I don't collect as much poo so I get suspicious that I'm not being as effective.
I do this as well.
