fieldsso how about that HoN guys
The best in terms of features/customizability, except new heroes are more overpowered than LoL's new heroes usually and "early access" heroes (dunno if they still do it, but it's worse than LoL in that sense). I still like HoN the most since I rarely queue against people who get early access and don't have to worry about it (and my friends who don't play LoL play HoN).
CarboNnot true. you can buy EXP boosters in dota 2 store. Not bashing it as its miles ahead of LoL in my opinion. but ya, there are some cheap micro transactions in dota.
Does XP actually do anything in game? Last time I checked (which granted was a while ago) leveling up was just for bragging rights and didn't affect gameplay at all.
Isn't everybody uploading random shit just so that they can put in on their steam pages (since you can display artwork)? I know people are violating the ToS and shit like that, but people are treating the Artwork section as an avatar/image uploading display and not a serious art portfolio. Steam honestly should have seen this coming.
phobiaI don't think you read or comprehended what he was trying to say
He said that having a smaller character makes it easier for casual players to learn the game (a benefit). This limits better players who already have a moba understanding of the game and can quickly understand the basics of heroes (just watching videos isn't the same as playing them), and why it's a casual game. Limits content to hold hands.
The business model is good to make $$$. He talks about how paying makes you behind a bit competitively. That's what I call P2W. Although like he said it may not be much (though honestly I bet it adds up) it's still paying for an advantage.
Arxsnip
Exactly why the game is casual. Forces you to hold its hand. Also why it's P2W, as you have to invest time and money (not just be skilled) to be equal competitively.
TrathBalance will always be imperfect. Heros are changed to be stronger/weaker every patch. I would imagine its the same for Dota?
At any given time, you will always have X heros for every roll that are way better than the rest.
New heros aren't always overpowered. Most of the heros that are changed with every new patch are pretty old.
I mean sure as a player I find it frustrating that I have to bank up on IP, but I understand Riot's view as well.
Honestly if all you can buy in Dota is cosmetics, then I really don't understand how they are making money. (but then TF2 pops in to mind, so I guess there really are enough people that care about that stuff)
I think your term "soft pay to win" nails it. I don't like just "pay to win".
Soft pay to win is still pay to win. Diablo 3 is a "soft" pay to win game because you can just grind and eventually you'll get enough gold or something to afford that super duper item. But you could also pay $200 for that item, letting you pay to ridiculously reduce the amount of time it takes to get that item. I considering buying time advantages pay to win.
DarkNecridA Level 1 account will never be paired against a level 30 LoL account unless you're doing custom games pretty much though.
The main problem is a Level 30 LoL account can not compete against other level 30 LoL accounts based on runes/champions owned.
You can in a custom game. I'm just saying, if the best Dota 2 team wanted to play LoL, they'd have to grind out to level 30 and grind out the hundreds of runes and probably have to pay for rune pages and heroes just to be fucking equal to another player. It's stupid that they can be considered a professional esport when you add a huge fucking time barrier from playing equally.
I'm fine with a person knowing more about the game beating newcomers. I do mind when you newcomers can't play because they don't have the 2 months of playing with IP boost rune pages and heroes that completely dictate the early game.
yukitruth of why lol sucks as a competitive
Basically the biggest problem I have with LoL. You have to grind to be on equal footing with any other play. In non-casual competitive games, everybody starts equally in the eyes of the game (no advantages for playing/grinding/paying more). A level 1 LoL account can never compete against a level 30 LoL account with every rune and super rune pages etc.
It's fine as a casual game though. I just hate it as being considering a professional game because it gives definite advantages to people who play more.
TrathOOVOOV#22Yeah I inferred that, but obviously Valve makes money from dota. So what can money buy you in-game?
you start off with all champs unlocked, no grinding involved.
Hats, of course.
Actually, just cosmetics and keys to chance cosmetics. But there's no P2W like LoL.
Scout wins more often if they can play a gay 1v1 where you pistol from across the map all day. If a soldier camps inside an indoor area with flat terrain soldier will basically always win.
Terrain is everything for the matchup. 1v1 scout's mobility usually wins, but if the game were say, team objective based, it would be much more closer and incomparable/situational.
phobiai regret posting this thread
As you should.
why are there so many shitty youtube threads now
