#92 Valve launches competitive beta public group in News

I hope that there is going to be some serious weapon rebalancing in the MM patch to bring out some legit alternative side options to stock / current meta (example ubersaw, basher, equalizer) without making it feel too gimmicky.

While stuff like tide turner, huntsman, mini sentries etc wouldnt be viable in competitive against good/decent and probably not even low teams, would allowing them in MM bring something to the table or just encourage people to use gimmicks or whatever you want to call it. Depends on what the tf2 dev team / valve wants; is matchmaking going to be a way for people to play 6v6 in whatever play style they want - maining huntsman/demoknight/pyro or are they going to encourage people to run the current 6v6 cookie

Curious to see what will happen, definitely looking forward to playing/testing banned unlocks in matchmaking.

povohatI should be used to the wider TF2 scene taking things I created and using them without credit.

Reminds me of when ipz claimed he wrote surfaceproperties.txt in 2013 or so... I appreciate that you released a "bag of secrets" in 2010, found while browsing and have used the movement/hud crosshair/surfaceproperties ever since.

#48 What should I buy from the winter sale? in Other Games

Games that havent been mentioned I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good game would be

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition - Journey/RPG/Action (get the PC fixes though)
Antichamber - FPS exploration/puzzle
Magicka - DnD spells on drugs co-op, wouldnt recommend playing alone
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Oldschool shooter
Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition - Oldschool shooter/cyberpunk with a more story driven narrative

Games that have been mentioned I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good game would be

Undertale - Extremely well done indie RPG/exploration game
Fallout 1/2 - Oldschool non-forgiving RPG
Fallout New Vegas - Somewhat more forgiving RPG but also aged better, would recommend if its your first fallout

#18 Soundwhoring in tf2? in TF2 General Discussion
jnki_aka_tungsten1) did the comms interfere with the sounds you heard in-game? 2) did you use regular good quality stereo or the 5.1/7.1

Yes to a minor extent and stereo. If you are hiding or doing a surprise hold you want to hear when someone is coming so you can prefire (soldier/demo). Sometimes you do it on timing based on the walk distance from the cp to the choke if you cant hear anything but its not 100% reliable to do that.

While I do think its a nice niche do be able to soundspot and predict opponents, it very rarely beneficial to sit still and listen. I didnt actively tell people I played with to be quiet, you kinda have to expect comms and in-game sounds from your own team since the game goes at a relatively fast pace. Its more a thing you just do if you can determine distance comfortably eg was that door opening / rocket jump / sticky sound my teammates, could he have reached it / done it in time based on where I knew he was x seconds ago.

#15 Soundwhoring in tf2? in TF2 General Discussion

Ive used high quality audio and a very high in-game volume for several years. Not high enough to hurt the ears from direct combat action but rather comfortably loud. It makes sound spotting easy, such as hearing the fzz sound from 100% medics across a quarter of the map.

And yes removing soundscapes helps. I didnt have problem spotting with soundscapes but its much nicer without them. Its more about learning audio cues and listening than using low or high sound quality.

#39 BOOST FPS WITH THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK in TF2 General Discussion

I launched the game with -default on dx90 and these are some of the settings that are in config.cfg after using host_writeconfig full

Show Content
mat_queue_mode -1
cl_threaded_bone_setup 0
mat_forcehardwaresync 0
mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0
r_queued_decals 0
r_queued_ropes 1
r_queued_post_processing 0
r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 0
r_threaded_particles 1
r_threaded_renderables 0
mod_load_anims_async 0
mod_load_mesh_async 0
mod_load_vcollide_async 0

I have a GTX 760 + i5 4670k @4.2ghz. Shouldnt the queue/threaded settings all be set to 1 for a multicore optimized setup? (Except mat_queue_mode).

I also looked a bit at forcehardwaresync, forcemanagedtextureintohardware and the three mod_load_x_async but didnt get any wiser from that. Could anyone explain those commands and what values would work best?

Thank you.

edit: typo

#25 Should I get a new HDD? in Hardware

I got a new HDD + SSD a few days ago (WD Black, EVO 850) and did a clean install of steam / TF2. Installed TF2 on the SSD and the framerate and general performance is the same apart from the faster loading time.

Friend of mine had the same problem last year, it was a sign of his motherboard dying. It went back to normal after he replaced it.

Permanent download with sorted filenames: https://mega.nz/#!PNtB0JTQ!eA606nzd1t1y6_dnZKX71DP9IuUTPtA6v5MbzOvJRVw

I didn't use prec and would rather sort out the "sadadsadsadasdas" demos for a few minutes than confuse whoever downloaded it.

Where did you find this? Pretty sure the pastebin containing the expirebox link is unlisted.

Had the exact same issue, turns out my SSD was set to IDE instead ahci and mobo defaulted to ahci, resulting in bluescreen / freeze on the "Starting Windows" logo.

#31 Co-op games? in Other Games

Dead Rising 2, you can play the full game in co-op. It doesnt scale well because its two players in a world meant for one (enemies doesn't get tougher) but you can still get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
