TMPHello, real pyro main here. Just woke up, sorry for bumping this. Someone asked me to post my opinions here.
I'm gonna keep this short, I don't care about pyro in 6s, I don't care about trying to make pyro viable in 6s even as a feigned measure. He's a class that works best as a constant threat and that doesn't work amazingly in a game that's based around timings and abusing spikes in advantages, and if he did, it would no longer be a game based around timings and abusing spikes in advantages.
There's really only one potential negative shift in the matchups for pyro in this patch due to these pyro changes and that's pyro vs scout. Removes the .6s kill option on nonbuffed and makes it like .7s. So naturally this hurts the 6s pyro some but I mean you guys really weren't running him for the purpose of fighting scouts anyways.
Every other matchup that actually really matters just got faster for pyro's kill option with degreaser. Quite a bit on classes with above 150hp. Degreaser's damage in the preferred fighting range was increased by 50% (4 damage per tick to 6 damage per tick) due to the falloff changes and the damage reduction removal.
Since you guys are 6s players and some of you play quake, comboing with pyro is somewhat similar to the strategy of lg-rail in quake in why you do it. They just increased the switch time to rail by 50%, yeah, but they also buffed the lg's damage by 50%.
isn't the buff only for stock FT
wareyaIMO the degreaser needed the weapon switch rebalance because of the flaregun, rather than should having been not nerfed because of it. Because of flare -> axtinguisher combos. Especially relevant now that they're bringing the axtinguisher back more like it used to be. Globally buffing weapon switch speed and giving the degreaser an "only relevant to this weapon" switch speed buff, instead of the old passive one, seems fair, especially considering the degreaser's damage changes -- the nerfed afterburn will encourage degreaser pyros to roll flaregun, this just prevents that from being the overpowered combo again regardless of the current lack of airblast stacking.
axtinguisher is useless and thanks to airblast change, shotgun is now better 100%
Zannablukeoh my god i'm having too much fun reading reddit right now

another pyro mainWARNING: VULGAR LANGUAGE
It's almost like valve took the complaints of soldier/demo/etc saying "Pyro is hard to fight against" and made their dreams come true. If it's hard to fight against, don't fucking get within range, and if you do, use shotgun. Yes soldiers, that means getting rid of your gunboats every once in a while, I know, gross. Competitive, by nature, means that you will be challenged. If you don't like being challenged, don't fucking play competitive. Like I've said a million times in pubs (I even had a bind for this at one point), "If you get killed by an M1 Pyro, its your fault, you got within range, you overstepped, YOU fucked up". You can't blame the enemy for your mistake. If you really don't like playing against Pyro, don't play Highlander. For fucks sake, B4nny plays sixes almost exclusively, and rarely runs into a Pyro. He also doesn't understand Pyro mechanics as demonstrated in his rant, and that's a key part of defeating your enemy, knowing how they work. He really has no ground to stand on. Being a top level competitive player does not mean you have the authority or knowledge to make decisions about a class you almost never encounter or play. Gamesense, pill aim, rocket jumping mechanics, etc. do not contribute to a better understanding of Pyro.
To be entirely honest, I'm considering selling my backpack and uninstalling this game. If valve is going to shit on me so hard and outright ignore what's important, fuck this game.
Note 1: they didn't really bother to fix any of the actually important issues with Pyro, such as backpedaling flame particles, airblast wonkyness, etc.
Note 2: I realize the change isn't super significant numbers-wise, but it is a game changer.
i'm in fucking tears holy shit
he has some point tho, they didnt fix any pyro related bugs. airblast is still full of bugs and so are flame particles
SideshowFUNKetruktrukFUNKeThe video isn't a discussion on the implications on the core mechanics of the game, it's a vent about a shitty weapon for pub play.
I don't think it's a shitty weapon for pub play when the weapon is inherently bad but forces bad players to develop basic game sense and awareness to easily counter the weapon.
I can't argue with that. Sorry for misconceiving the item impression in the video, I guess. I'm gonna take it down and learn more before i talk about stuff next time
Naw don't be put off man. It IS a bad weapon, and the fact they buffed it is total nonsense. The weapon is now even easier to use and does a lot of damage. The fact you can't be killed once you get 225 damage with any weapon is crazy. Yes it's easy-ish to counter, but it's still a bad weapon and Valve's attempt at changing its properties only made it worse.
People are just mad because they think you're defending the pyro or something but this was a genuinely bad change. It's literally 225 damage for a full hp regen and kritz, and no effort on the part of the pyro. You can't even focus him down until he has the full hp and kritz, because before that he can taunt at any time. It's not OP, but it is stupid and a change in the wrong direction.
are u having problem shooting 2 rockets at a pyro without airblast? EDIT: oh its u sideshow 4Head
so, my headset broke today. ive heard that headphones with a mic are better and cheaper. any tips?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSB4ywcE528
upon watching this video i decided to test that myself.
it turns out that flamethrower range giving the starting point of flame particles can be changed randomly depending on your ping changes while in a server. (lol wtf)
ive tried messing around with my ping for some time and discovered that there is no clear way to make flame particles have the longest distance. it is completely random where your outcome of flame particles will be set to after you change your ping.
sometimes the particles will come out way ahead of flamethrowers end and sometimes they will literally come out of pyros ass. resulting in pyro having extremely short flame range from time to time.
ping is supposed to affect the time between you shooting something with a projectile weapon and the server actually recognizing that you shot something with your projectile weapon. it is not supposed to change the range of a certain weapon.
what do you guys think?
this is the result of playing tf2 with mat_phong 0
