tl;dr:
- Americans who filed their taxes in 2018-19 are eligible for a stimulus check up to $1,200 (this depends on your income, but if you alone make $75k+ your check may be less - benefits are capped at $99k+)
- Married couples and people who claim dependents on their taxes can get even more ($2,400 for married couples, +$500 per child. This also means people who were claimed on taxes for those years may be ineligible for a check)
- Lifts some restrictions for being eligible for unemployment benefits (up to an extra $600 per week for at least the next 4 months)
- You don't need to register or sign up to receive your check. If the IRS has your information or you applied for Social Security benefits, they will send it through direct deposit if possible. Otherwise, it will be mailed by check to the addresses they have on file
Still no clear answer on when people will start receiving payments, but I've heard it could be anywhere from three weeks to early May. There also aren't any benefits to reap if you pay child support, and it seems to offer no solace for the homeless population during this time.

sucks that such a large portion of the funds are just going straight to either a corporate slush fund or no-interest loans for corporations, but this was probably the best the SENATE could do
pelosi should've fought more in the house but obviously that was never gonna happen

definitely not an insignificant amount of money for us upstaters, this is making my dad able to afford our mortgage; people in the city are getting double fucked with this though, especially seeing as NYC has like half the country's cases and not getting nearly proportional funding through this bill

what we really need in nyc (and everywhere else) is a rent freeze, but because our country is backwards and evil everyone's proposing mortgage relief instead
obviously both would be ideal but it's always fun to see the renting class get shafted

Renting to someone is seen as a service you're continually purchasing, a mortgage is just a loan on something you already theoretically have bought.

Pelosi having to fight harder means she must have someone to fight against (republicans/trump), saying it's the best the senate could do further implies that the other branches of government were opposed to it. I don't know how little you know about the political landscape, but the speaker of the house of opposition party is generally in direct opposition to the president as long as it is politically beneficial. Maybe mustard was trying to say Pelosi didn't want a better relief bill, but idk why'd you say fought if that's what you meant.

I'm just glad that the Democratic Party Nominee for President of the United States (Joseph Robinette Biden) has been a visible and forceful figure throughout this process, and has not been hidden by his aides the whole time. When the incumbent grossly mishandles a crisis, it's obviously crucial that his challenger in November present himself as a vigorous, active, and salient alternative to the status quo. So glad that Joseph has been doing that!

idk much about mustard's political views but this idea that the politicians aren't actually fighting for the party's interest is not an uncommon one (e.g. the tea party movement labeling the moderate republicans as RINOs - republicans in name only). Trump being in favour of a less generous stimulus package although is something I would disagree with is something to be expected - he is a member of the GOP and they are traditionally in favour of less government intervention, so I don't think it's unsafe to assume that the criticism was directed towards Pelosi for not being ambitious enough.
