Warmtic is over, to the joy of Medics everywhere. We're headed to familiar ground on Badwater Pro, as while relatively recent, it's still very similar to its pub counterpart. The season is almost over, with the last two matches being more formalities than anything else. We bid farewell to Burnham And Root, perhaps the last team to die this season in all of UGC.
The Teams And Changes
Burnham & Root | ||||||||
Paddie | Remedy | Geosus | Ma3la | Rainy | Mario | Nursey | shrugger | stabby |
Technically, the roster hasn't changed at all. However, Burnham and Root is disbanded, marked as Not Ready on UGC. While this does bring the teams down to an even number, twelve, and removes the Bye Week, nobody wants to see a team die.
Corn Ducks | ||||||||
fUZION | p3nguin | Deejaey | Rightjustify | Rue | hungry | brulèe | Timeless | Daynife |
While technically a change from last week, Chris has bowed out, leaving the Pyro spot open for Deejaey of Squirtle Squad fame to replace him.
sheen and the ultra lords | ||||||||
Angryofficer | Jackster | Lazy | sigh | barycenter | Rolls Royce | Coldster | train | Pellovley |
As Invader seems to face issue after issue, sigh continues to play Demoman for the ultra lords, perhaps ending the legacy of Demosilly before its time. The actual reason this team is listed, however, is the change of Angryofficer and train, now playing Scout and Sniper respectively. train had proven to be a top level HL Scout, but with the last two weeks being simpler matches, and the switch not looking terribly strange anyways, it shouldn't matter too much.
The One Moment | ||||||||
Scorp | Etney | Digresser | Split | RokkitFrog | Spamfest | Fireshaker | Vlad | MS |
I don't even know what their roster will be. I can only assume Fire will be coming back, leaving Etney to inevitably rotate to a different class that is missing. The only remaining mystery – is this roster curse attached to Digresser, or to corny OK Go team names.
Wartortle Warriors | ||||||||
Uber | D3STRUCTION | The Pyro Squirrel | Dreadnought | Serious | Gamemaster | Teddy | 0xyg3n | Sylon |
As if to one-up moment., Wartortle Warriors changes their roster once again. Surprisingly enough, this time I can't find any new players Gamemaster plucked out of a Steel roster. 0xyg3n was an up-and-coming Sniper a few seasons back, before seemingly falling into the void and not being active. D3STRUCTION, their other new player, has yet to play on any truly 'Platinum' teams, but should fit in just fine with the team.
As for the teams that didn't change...

The Race
Everything would be a lot easier if Vanguard wasn't in Week 8. The last time we saw a new 5CP map, Sunshine, very few matches ended with a 5-x. So with that conundrum, the best estimation of who'll end where is their possible opponents.
sheen and the ultra lords should be able to hold onto their first place slot, Vanguard MP shenanigans aside. The second slot should be going to Acoomuma, with a considerable MP advantage over the next contenders, and a game against DOOR they shouldn't lose. The next spot is a bit more up in the air. '92, the loser of cK vs M|m, and the winner of Bv vs qaK will want to claw their way into that spot, but will have to hope for MP trickery on Vanguard to overtake the winner of m|M vs cK – the most likely taker of the third seed.
Of course, this is all assuming 2-0s. As the end line gets closer and closer, a 2.5 MP advantage will mean so much more, perhaps even being the difference between success and failure.
The Matches
Sheen and the ultra lords vs Dedoris
The 'wildcard' of Week 1 prepares to finish their feast, taking on Dedoris in what should be a simple game for them. While Lehcs and Kresnik on DOOR are no pushovers, and estevez have had recent roster changes, that shouldn't change much. sheen and the ultra lords are a team very in touch with momentum, and have been riding a wave since Week 2 when they started their winstreak. 2-0 in favor of sheen and the ultra lords.
While '92 are one of the upset teams, having taken down the now dead BR, it's unlikely to strongly transfer to their game here. Whether or not BR collapsed due to that game, or that game was due to BR collapsing isn't relevant, '92 shouldn't be able to get more than a round here, if that. Acoomuma is a team with some very objective minded people, and they'll have no intention of allowing a team like '92 to throw their placement plans in jeapordy. 2-0 in favor of Acoomuma.
Curse of Knowledge vs Memento | Mori
This match matters a lot. The winner of this will be the default placement for third place, set to defend against the teams attempting to uproot them. While Memento Mori no doubt intend to prove their abilities one last time, their two losses against '92 and alec don't provide hope for their supporters. They're definitely a good team, but cK definitely won't let down their guard and will have every intention of taking the win here, and there's realistically little opportunity m|M will have to take two rounds. 2-1 in favor of Curse of Knowledge.
Avian cousins meet each other on the Badwater battlefield, with the attempts to salvage their record. The winner here will slip into the list of people vying for that third spot, as they'll end up 4-3 with '92 and the loser of cK vs m|M. qaK's wins are strange, taking wins against practically every side of Platinum – DOOR, PINPONG, and bp. Bv's wins are less impressive, having won against moment. and -ww-. From that alone, qaK appears to be superior. Their roster also seems more powerful in general. 2-0 in favor of Corn Ducks.
Ban Paals vs Wartortle Warriors
With all due respect to Gamemaster, if the roster he had now applied to be in Platinum, it probably wouldn't have happened. There's no reason to expect the current -ww- to get any more wins this season, especially against a roster with the potential that bp does have. 2-0 in favor of Ban Paals.
Pyongyang Pyonggang vs The One Moment
At the beginning of the season, both teams had rosters that could've been pegged as potential upsetters. Yet here they are, at the bottom of the list, avoiding that last place spot. With PINGPONG at least having a stable roster and not being required to pull in high-ping Euros, they should have the advantage here. 2-1 in favor of The Pyongyng Pyonggang.
