Was looking for a mechanical that has a nice response and isn't obnoxiously loud. Read through some other threads and still had some questions.
I've been looking at the logitech g710, razer's tournament edition, daskeyboard, and rosewill keyboard. Thoughts on those?
I've been really liking the sound of brown switches, but I can't find a place to try any. If it's any help, the nicest keyboard i've used so far was the my laptop's. I'm not the biggest fan of curved keys.
Recommendations? Thoughts on the above?

Unicomp Classic 104

Filco is a great brand, don't get the Blackwidow <I don't enjoy mine>
Here's a good guide

If you choose topre, you're going to pay more than 200$, unless used.

leopold reds
edit: or browns
I have a Filco Majestouch 2 tenkeyless with brown switches and it's fucking awesome.
Before I got it I wasn't sure which switch I wanted to get, but I ended up settling with browns because the blues seemed a little loud but I still liked the idea of having a little click feeling when typing.

If you want flat keys/chiclets like your laptop, then you're in a bit of a niche. Not sure at all what has decent rollover for gaming, and you'll find less discussion on it, but you might be able to find something like that for cheap rather than going for cherry switches or topre.

If you're looking at cherry MX switches, don't choose one based on its sound. Reds/browns/blacks/whites/clears all sound identical... Any difference in sound is based on the board itself as some have plate-mounted switches and others do not. ALL[/i] cherry mx-based mechanical keyboards are loud if you bottom out the keys.
From your suggestions, I'd go with Das. Razer mechanicals are trash by comparison.

I saw the new Corsair K70 at PAX, it was both great to type on and look at.
I personally use a custom WASD v1. If you can drop close to $200 on a keyboard, this is a great one.

If you can drop 200 then the K90 is fantastic, and the K70 looked fantastic too.

If you are willing to pay $200 for a keyboard, skip the nonsense and go right into a Topre Realforce.

Browns feel incredible.
That's my only contribution to this thread.

Cherry MX Browns. They feel smooth and aren't very loud.
I recommend this keyboard, it's really good!

Actually, to piggyback onto this, can anyone recommend a good and/or cheap Tenkeyless?
CM Storm QFR - Literally a filco with a different paintjob. I used one with reds. Very solid board.
Leopold - I've used a fullsize with brows, quality is great. Stock keycaps are meh, but that's the case with almost any board.
There are other decent TKLs (ducky, vortex, etc) out there in the 80-110 range, but none of them really compare in terms of build quality.

Noppoo Choco Mini is considerably more solid than the QFR. No idea about the Leopold.

Do mechanical keyboards make that much of a difference gaming wise? I know they're better for typing but are they essential for tf2?

The general consensus is that they'll make gaming more enjoyable, but they won't make you better.

Depends, if you have blues, they are not the best for gaming, but do fine.
Reds are good for double tapping, you'll see a butt ton of reds at any SC2 tournament.
Browns are a lighter blue, good for gaming, and also typing.
Blacks are stiffer reds basically.

I just got a CoolerMaster storm quickfire rapid with MX blues. It's a vast improvement over my laptop keyboard and pretty cheap. It also fits my tiny desk and I don't miss the numpad at all. Build quality is also pretty great and it's small size is great if you need to take it anywhere. Blues are great feeling, but it's my first mechanical so i don't know much.
