After the update today,I tried to start tf2 and it gives me the message preparing to start tf2 like it always does in the gray box. However after the messages disappears then it says that I am no longer in tf2 and it does nothing. I tried restarting tf2 and nothing happened. Does anyone know what to do?
I have the same problem, I tried what Noona said too :(
Don't know what to say then. My tf2 seems to be working fine.
I had the issue with Steam continuously searching for updates when I opened TF2, but I went offline and back online on steam and it is now fixed.
I'm having the same issue, i tried what Noona and timesthelegallimit said, but none of the solutions have worked yet.
So I just restarted my computer and I am getting a new popup when trying to start up tf2 saying "Scanning for Steam games updates..."
Edit: Just went offline and back online and nothing happened.

I am on xp as well.. Does anybody have an idea on how long it will take valve to fix this?
I've been having this problem ever since they first released the update about an hour ago. Hopefully they fix it soon

Pretty sure everyone with xp has.

Widespread issue with XP/server 2003 involving kernel32.dll which has both clients and server ops complaining everywhere. TF2 doesn't have a previous version branch unlike CS:GO's, so the only thing you can really do at this point is poke Valve and wait.

I got that issue

TreshWhere is that file located?
Program Files x86 > Steam

I'm on Windows 7, and TF2 (and I guess Steam) decided not to communicate with the VAC servers. At first I thought P-REC was suddenly unsigned, as it was saying it was. After removing it, it was still saying that I couldn't browse for servers (Steam Beta must be running message). I restarted Steam, and now it's fine, and P-REC is fine.
Just wanted to put this here in case someone else had the same problem (rays did earlier).
P-REC IS NOT BROKEN.
