Open beta is out on Friday which I will probably download.

I preordered using digikeys (saved 20 bucks + get map pack, but sadly no predownload/closed beta) but I am so psyched about Friday when the open beta launches.

Is releasing a half built game and calling it a beta the thing to do now?

Played it for a bit, and it's fun. All the servers are pretty laggy, which is unfortunate. Plus the game is only optimized for AMD at this point so Intel/Nvidia users like myself will be kinda screwed until newer drivers come out.

I tried playing but I'm going to wait until it's released. It's too laggy right now and doesn't have jets =\

I cant join, it just shows the joining server bar at the bottom but then that disappears.

Some interesting things I noticed:

Render.Drawfps 1 doesn't work anymore. The command was changed the to PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1

MSI Afterburner's OSD won't work because it only supports 32 bit games and the BF4 beta is 64 bit only.

FOV can be set as high as 120 now.

Your FOV doesn't lower when you ADS with the red dot sights. Haven't tried iron sights yet. EDIT: that was a specific scope. Other scopes work normally.

With the 2x magnifier sight on the Support rifle, zooming in doesn't seem to scale sensitivity, so aiming is kinda wonky. Reminds me of ADS in Bulletstorm.

On the spawn screen, instead of seeing your selected spawn location in real time in the background, you see it in a small window at the bottom of your screen. If your selected spawn point is a squad mate, then it shows his first person view. The rest of the spawn screen is a big commander view of the map. You can now spawn on locations by clicking it on the map rather than guessing names from a list.

Lots of positive changes. Really liking the game so far.

Ingame settings: All low + lowered resolution
Average FPS: 40-60

i get better fps on the nvidia 320.49 drivers than the 331 ones :P

The command to show your FPS is "perfoverlay.drawfps 1".

The BETA is incredibly fun, except for a few annoying problems. It's only a BETA but, you know, can't avoid feeling annoyed by some stuff.

The XM25 Airburst is seriously overpowered. It can hit from incredibly ranges, it shoots fast and it has no damage falloff whatsoever. I'm not sure why there are even that many tanks allowed at once in the BETA. The medic's AK-12 is way too good. I don't know if it's the recoil compensator I have on it, which might be it, but it's almost a laser gun. Dunno why, but sniping seems incredibly easy in this game right now. Can't explain why that is.

Other than these and the unusual performance issues (with and without updated drivers made for BF4), this BETA has been incredibly fun and I'm enjoying it. Will probably buy it.

Works flawlessly on Windows 8.1 Pro expect the annoying mouse lag while playing windowed.

if you guys don't mind, any chances you can write out what your GPU/CPU's are and your average FPS on whatever quality setting you play on?

AMD 5770/AMD Phenom II x6 1055t - 40FPS on all low settings and no motion blur. (Yes, I realize my GPU is getting heavily outdated, but I can still run most modern games that focus on using the GPU just fine)

BF3 on ultra settings I get ~75 FPS. I can't see this game being that much more demanding than BF3, if much at all. I'm honestly just believing it's poor BETA performance.

Game runs fine on low with a i5-3570K and a 7850 2GB. 4GB of RAM and a standard 1TB Hard Drive. Game is pretty fun but I'm getting so much micro freezes like when I run around a corner, game freezes and goes back to normal and you die in the process.

Also, my loading times are atrocious and I had this problem with BF3 too where it can take up to 2-3 minutes loading a map and my friend on a laptop with inferior specs take about 30-45 seconds.

pretty sure long loading times were a constant in bf3 unless you had the game installed on an ssd

For someone who didn't play BF3, would you consider BF4 to be a worthwhile game to buy? I'm familiar with the series. I think the last game I played was 2142.

I like the Battlepacks idea. Sounds like crates a bit, but you don't have to pay anything to unbox them. I got lucky in my first one and got a Green Laser Sight :D
