I've been watching it and figured it would be worth posting on here. http://debatelive.org/
Not trying to start a religion battle, just thought that some of you guys may be interested in watching.
Edit: You're missing out on stories of fish sex with Bill Nye. o.o

That guy thinks dinosaurs and humans lived together, not much of a debate.

Agreed. I would love to see the reactions of people truly learning, and not just being persuaded.

"Well Bill there's a book out there ______________________" his basic argument. I don't understand why he's literally only addressing people who believe in the Bible if he's arguing against non-believers. I feel as though there's a serious lack of common ground in that respect...

although im not religious at all, i used to be and went to catholic school for 10 years. i always thought of the bible as a book of life lessons (mixed in with some crazy ass sexism/homoeroticism/other weird shit) and shouldn't be taken literally.

if you think some dude got eaten by a whale and just chilled in his stomach for a while then came back home...holy shit.

but, there are those extremists out there who think 1 guy ate an apple because his girlfriend persuaded him to after being convinced it was a good idea by a talking snake and doomed all of humanity. they won't be convinced the earth isn't 2000 years old, so why bother. let them be comforted by their intentional ignorance if that's how they choose to get through life; no point in wasting time on them.

I love how this guy is using both the fall of man and 7 days creationism when the two actually don't fit in together.
Not to mention everything else.

I just found it extremely ironic how he claimed that textbooks were purposely "bait-and switching" scientific terms like "evolution" to "indoctrinate" young students.

This is coming from someone who wholeheartedly believes in a book that billions abide by.

TheFragileI truly, seriously don't understand how people can believe this fairy-tale bullshit.

you know how like when you were a kid you believed some stupid shit, for example my mom made me believe that i have to eat the crust on bread or I wont be able to whistle, and you need someone to literally laugh at your face and make fun of you for believing that piece of idiocy to know the truth. Well some kids are born into religion and it ends being the end all be all of their lives, and this sticks with them into adulthood, however when faced with opposite beliefs they rely on circular logic to debate.

That's why I could never whistle.

They should've asked why it took god a day to make the sun, but hardly any time at all to create 300 sextillion stars.

Most of these things are incredibly boring because the Theist type is usually not particularly well educated in theology so they can't even present nuanced arguments beyond "god did it yo the bible said so" nor do they ever really get deep into theological texts because their grasp of theology is usually quite poor.

The atheist is usually also pretty crap because, in general, most atheists just substitute theism in form. Generally, most posit that while there isn't some big other figure with unlimited power, there's still a cosmic order of sorts, evolution or chaos theory, and so on blah blah, that provides them with some sort of unique place in the universe - which still utilizes the existence of an, albeit less conscious, "other" which is beyond life and in control. Nor are they ever particularly well versed in theology which makes things even more boring, because there's nothing like a nonbeliever asking theological questions that can't be answered.

We already know why people remain religious, "Cognitive dissonance".

They are comforted in the belief so any challenge of it actually hurts their brain.

This is a fun read:
