Apparently I can't buy Dxtory because it doesn't like my PayPal account. Are there any free alternatives which are worth using?

You can use OBS and window capture, but I guess you're using fullscreen?

Yeah. Using fullscreen mainly for performance but I guess I can try windowed and see how it goes.
Shame nobody has written an OS alternative though. Oh well.

From what I can see Bandicam isn't freeware. =/
Please note that Bandicam is not free software, which requires registration for the genuine product. If the product is not registered, the watermark will be shown on the top of the recorded video and the recording time will be limited.

Fraps uses less system resources so you keep a better framerate, with the youtube encoder quality gets destroyed anyway, the difference between fraps and any other recording tool is small if you are uploading to youtube.
dxtory is the best for picture quality, but unless you are getting a constant framerate while recording the video is going to be really choppy.
You can also try the MSI Afterburner recording tool, it's very basic though.
