So what are the chances we get ESEA-M back on the table for next season, if we keep growing open like this?
ESEA would need a big IM to make main, not a big open
blendtecESEA would need a big IM to make main, not a big open
technically you need both, numbers in open look good so far tho

Which is why I mention next season (20). If we've got so many open teams, there can just be more move-ups into IM and creation of main.
Maybe just being too optimistic though, not sure how many of these 70 are gonna end up paid.

Well let's look at it, 60+ open teams this season opens the chance of a larger playoffs. If they make it say, 24 that's 12 new IM teams next season. So IM would be around 28 teams next season, if they keep the one win rule. I'm not sure how big IM was going to be the season we had Main because I wasn't playing, but that feels like a pretty big IM

no it will stay 16 teams playoffs
only reason main actually happened was because they moved all the teams up that made playoffs in open, thus skewing(take as a grain of salt) the skill levels and what not which is sorta why people called season 15-16 the season of throws.

Makes sense, I think a drastic change like adding Main needs to stay for more than 1-2 seasons for it to balance out and become a solid competitive division

also IM in season 14 had 25 teams, although like 4 or 5 of them died pretty quickly
Open will always be 16-team playoffs. What can change is promotions.
Back in the double elimination playoffs, they moved the top 4 Open teams into Main, and the remaining 12 to IM. It'll be interesting to see what happens since they've changed to single elimination.

No need for it to change, it's determined in playoffs who the top 4 teams are

GoobledegakEven though most people make fun of UGC 6's it's been really good for ESEA. There are more and more serious Steel and Silver UGC 6's teams over the years and eventually a lot of them are ending up in ESEA. I think a lot more of the UGC players are starting to see ESEA as the end goal as opposed to Platinum. It's great that such a strong pipeline is forming for the future.
Thats only because they dont know any better imo to have open as your end goal isnt a great thing i believr open should be your 1st or second season because you learn so much quicker and actually have to work to improve. To have esea as your end goal seems like to me atleast tf2 for some of those people will lose its charm before they get to esea. Its still really cool to see some new teams though!

i encourage ugc players with some experience to start right away in open. nowadays i see newer esea players bragging about how theyre playing on an open team or backing up for one (lol). i dont get why ugc players see open as a privilege to play in. its more of a right bc its called OPEN. seasons ago ppl wouldnt even think playing in open was worth a mention
i believe ugc should be more for lobby players/pubbers who want to experience a team with some coordination first hand if they have the time but in rare cases there were talents who had IM+ dm/game sense without or barely having open experience like tony swan, ibby, yomps, etc.
forgot to say that there are cases you can have IM+ dm/game sense and play open ur first season like omar little
or becoming a no life slob with rly good aim and no brains (looking at u anh "toilethumor" nguyen)

less than an hour to decide, 45 teams paid and 25 more pending. Looks fairly healthy.

This is looking to be the best season of open since s14 or so. The top is super competitive between 6-8 teams and the playoff race is going to be super tight. I'd be willing to bet that only one or two 10-6 teams get in.
