I love checking forums of different game developers from time to time, if anyone is aware of Telltale, they had a similar problem in their Forum section. The community disliked Downvotes and some people even had to leave TT forums because of constant stream of downvoters, their solution was to remove Downvotes completely and keep Upvotes, so that the Forum members could rate the valuableness/helpfulness of Comments, instead of just disliking certain community members 24/7.

If frags were public wouldn't there still be bandwagoning? People could just side with big names they saw. Also why not just keep the + and - frags in the video sub forum if people like them there? It doesn't seem too necessary though since the video will have likes or dislikes on YouTube that you can see...

Who the hell honestly cares? While the purpose of the fragging system is unrealistically idealistic, neither the positives nor the negatives outweigh each other. On one hand, the system can be used to circlejerk and bandwagon, but on the other hand, it can be used to support and promote. It's not perfect, clearly, but it's not so entirely bad that it should be taken away.
It's just a damn number. The entire time the 6s community has had a place to call home, we've always dealt with the fragging system helping and hurting us. If someone contributes to the community in some way that should actually be +fragged incredibly, then it will be regardless of whatever circlejerk might be against it. If it's a shit contribution, people will -frag it into oblivion.
And sure, there might be a quality post here and there, or a shit post here and there, that gets unnecessarily buried or praised for whatever reason, but I'm gonna go ahead and give this community the benefit of the doubt and believe most of us can see through whatever bullshit there is and call it out. On some level, frags seem to add the concept of consequence to posting. In my opinion, without them, you'd see even more shitposts and useless banter because people wouldn't have to face the fact that people find them annoying or disaprove of their bullshit.
