alright let's get right to the point
I believe frags on tftv should be no longer. if you really think about it, frags do not make sense. have you ever seen a post that you agreed with, but then looked at the frags and saw -13 frags??? most likely, that post contained an unpopular opinion in a discussion. (or it was an axiomatic post)
A lot of people in this community are bandwagoners. not many people even realize this, but people will see a post that has -frags and their brain will instantly believe that the post is some stupid senseless shit. or, they'll see a post with +frags and then believe everything that person says. as a result, frags make our teamfortresstv community less open minded. instead of just -fragging a post, a person who disagrees with the post would have to provide for reason for why they disagree.
My hypothesis is that people are afraid to express their opinions sometimes on this site because they'll think they will just get -fragged and have a slightly bad name in the community. in what way is that acceptable?
Also, people with good names in the community almost never get -fragged, so their opinions are almost always more relevant than people who have different ones. how often do you see invite players get -fragged?

One key thing that I feel you misunderstand (at least as per your OP):
thmpsnA lot of people in this community are bandwagoners. not many people even realize this, but people will see a post that has -frags and their brain will instantly believe that the post is some stupid senseless shit. or, they'll see a post with +frags and then believe everything that person says. as a result, frags make our teamfortresstv community less open minded.
A forum feature (in this case, the +/- frag system) does not make people less open-minded. People who find such a forum feature to be critical when forming their own opinions are less open-minded, and their choice there is in their own control.
I've always seen the +/- frag system to be more geared towards simply saying "Hey, I support this!" or "Hey, I don't support this.", and rarely have I ever seen it to actually be harmful, or beneficial for that matter (the only exception being recruitment forums, but that's another story). It's just a fun little forum feature.

why would you base your own opinion off of what other people think? in most frag video threads, people will have already given feedback on it in the replies. you can judge if you want to watch it or not off of that, but that's your opinion and I respect it

I agree, all that really needs to be done is a frag history for each post

There are no positive effects of the voting system for individual posts, while threads -- not events -- can get a lot out of voting.
The number itself doesn't hurt anyone, but people feel justified in saying dismissive and rude things if they feel that the community agrees with them, either with upvotes on them or downvotes on others. I think the voting system really does contribute to a lot of extra negativity that gets in the way of honest discussion.

post frags reward circlejerks, bandwagons, and hivemind manipulation by creating a feelgood system for doing so. this is perpendicular to a good community. remove post frags

because it makes sense. If it has more - frags than + frags then its more likely than not a bad video, why would i waste time?

As soon as someone is known in this community as someone who shitposts (ie. omnific, blazedarkbringer, billdozer, mustardoverlord, axiomatic, fatswimdude, woogiebug, thmpsn and many others) they will ALWAYS get downfragged even if what they have to say is completely valid. The system is not flawed, the community is. Those who hide behind their screens and fling shit at the people I've mentioned really make this a bad place for a select few.

tbh -frags are like 90% of the reason i post

You're pretty dumb if you think Mustard is always minus fragged. He says plenty of valid points and people plus frag him all the time.
When people - frag Mustard its because he's an asshole saying something stupid. Shitposters are - fragged because they shitpost.
Even dflame gets plus fragged now after being one of the most hated members of the community for a long time.
How about instead of making really dumb/inflammatory posts and getting mad that you're - fragged put a little thought into what you type like an intelligent human being.
Or maybe just don't care so much about internet points like they define you.

Bonafidebut then how do I know which fragmovies are worth watching
allow thread frags
hide post frag counts when between +/-10, but still track them. also always display frag counts for your own posts.
this way anything with a small opinion won't instantly set your mind to be predisposed to hate the comment, but you can still distinguish important posts and shitty posts from the others
