Not sure where else to put this as i don't want to clutter the General Discussion section.

TF2 on windows xp full screen: when i alt-tab back into TF2, it goes into a black screen and becomes unplayable until it is restarted.

-dxlevel is removed from launch options. using chris maxframes.

launch options:
-w 1280 -h 720 -freq 120 -above normal -full -console -novid

use -windowed -noborder -w 1280 -h 720

very few games in fullscreen play nice with alt+tab

is there a way without using windowed/noborder? for win7, removing -dxlevel from launch options is enough to allow me to alt-tab freely even from fullscreen mode.

is this issue inherent in xp? really want to keep fullscreen.

windowed/noborder is ostensibly the same thing, but afaik if you want to -keep- using fullscreen you'll have to deal with that being an issue when you alt-tab

windowed/noborder is not the same if you have a different desktop resolution (1920/1080).

has anyone used windows xp before with fullscreen and not have this issue? if so what tweaks did you make?

just change the res of tf2 in launch options:

-windowed -noborder -w 1920 -h 1080

the goal is to run 1280x720 full screen. not windowed, noborder.

I run at 800x600 on XP, full screen. If I'm not in a server I can alt+tab freely but if I'm in a server it takes a long time to tab in and out and most of the time when I tab back in I time out from the server.

This is most likely the config more than the OS. Try taking out your config and running TF2 with -autoconfig. See if the problem still exists. Most likely, it'll be fine, but who knows
