i doubt its only to do with the hitboxes because the LG was considered the only reliable gun a few months ago. the patches did genuinely fuck with the hit detection and make it worse. theyve already been talking about making hitboes more forgiving well before the LG started being shit so itd be weird for them to make it worse on purpose.
regardless i think he was more talking about how quakes movement makes shit harder since their mechanics give you pretty solid escape options if you arent stuck in a corner. and the LG in quake has knockback which would be absolutely infuriating in tf2.
also zaryas dps and range is garbage by overwatch standards. 120 dps in tf2 is about as strong as zarya at full energy in OW. and OW's maps are waaaay more wide open and vertical than tf2 so youre much easier to play around/spam out in general..

sendyou guys need to understand that tracking in tf2 is fundamentally easier than it is in quake so there is no real way to make a lightning gun viable without being absurdly overpowered
They wouldn't just copy paste the lg from quake obviously, they would make the stats suitable with tf2. Also the flamethrower is already a tracking weapon it is just extremely easy to hit. If you keep every stat the same and just make it hitscan and reduce the cone size it would instantly just be a more skill rewarding weapon without being at all more powerful.

considering you can get absolutely faceburned with a glitch on the current one, it would be an improvement

Messing_Aroundsendyou guys need to understand that tracking in tf2 is fundamentally easier than it is in quake so there is no real way to make a lightning gun viable without being absurdly overpowered
currently QC players are complaining about their LG accuracy drops from 40% to 20% after the patch, it has nothing to do with the gun but actually because of the "pixel-perfect" hitboxes (that wrap around the 3d models), make it very hard to hit
this is QL hitbox, basically just a cylinder: https://cdn03.bethesda.net/forum/uploads/436d8eee-85c8-49ca-b69d-de9f2a94b4c6.jpg
this is TF2 hitboxes for hitscan: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/469804623031824709/B1DBAA2AD0B97758EB35FA17F8BB952EF581A51A/
even though they're not that small, they ain't a joke, especially with thin classes like Scout, Spy, ..combine with fast accelerate speed (when you spam A+D) and Crouch jump, i don't think tracking is that easy
about damage, i think 6dmg per tick, 20 ticks per sec, 120dps total is a very reasonable number to start with
p/s: if no one complains about Zarya being OP, then there is a real way to make a lightning gun viable without being absurdly overpowered
play cpma and then tell me how hard you think it is to track in tf2. also zarya's lg is not even remotely similar bc of her shielding mechanic
