alright so i'm kind of retarded, so i'd appreciate any help with this. basically these lag spikes are as generic as they get, i freeze for like a nanosecond and then everything juts forward in time to where they should be, annoying as fuck but nothing too terrible.
i changed my net settings from what they were because i was convinced my hitreg was fucked up (turns out it was just firstperson tracers). i switched from what i had to chris' configs net settings with a rate i pulled out of my ass (rate 100000), and considering how old chris config is this probably wasn't that smart of an idea. after i did that that the lag spikes started, so instead of switching back to what i had i switch to net settings i got sent by my little sister credu and the lag spikes disappeared. however as a consequence my ping was masked and i think there's a rule in etf2l where i can't mask my ping, doubt that rule has ever been used to punish someone but still, i switch my net settings back to what they were before i tried chris' net settings, but the lagging starts again. so i say whatever, and switch back to credu's settings but this time i'm still lagging.
some things to mention that might be important:
- i used a mastercomfig version that was 2 years old but i updated it to the newest one and the lagging persisted
- i also tried using the net settings built into the config but i still kept lagging
- for credu's settings i started typing exec custom (custom.cfg is where my net setttings are) in console every time i started up tf2 and kept doing this for all net settings i used, however whether i did this or not had no effect on the lag spikes after having switched back to credu's
- also idk what it means but i was in a server with not having exec'd custom, had lerp 30.3, had a couple lag spikes, disconnected, exec'd custom, reconnected, lerp was 15.2, had a lag spike and noticed my lerp got set to 30.3 after it happened.
what i've been doing is trying different net settings but nothing has definitively gotten rid of the lag spikes, some settings do nothing and others make them less frequent but way larger. i checked and my internet itself is fine. any help with this would be much appreciated :) xoxo
edit: forgot to mention that during normal gameplay choke on net graph reads 1-2 occasionally but sometimes goes up to 10 or someshit, also during lag spikes loss is 1-2
edit2: none of this happens in other games

Check task manager and make sure there isnt a funny process using your network resources.
Also credus network settings might not be optimal anymore as you cant go under 15.2ms lerp anymore

this has been resolved! woo!
funny story as it turns out the reason for my lag spikes was because it wasn't a lag spike it was my frames dropping and the reason for my frames dropping was in fact cp_sunshine. every time i noticed myself "lagging" it was on sunshine in a pug. "i switch my net settings back to what they were before i tried chris' net settings, but the lagging starts again. so i say whatever, and switch back to credu's settings but this time i'm still lagging." this was actually just 2 sunshine pugs in a row. me looking at net_graph was me in a public server and considering sunshine with 12 people is enough to make me lag i don't think a server with 24 on any map would have a hard time doing that.
i don't drop frames or lag on any other map, only sunshine.
