Ambient noise

Is there any way to disable it? It seems to be a part of a lot of maps, just a constant background noise which seems to get louder when nothing is happening. Annoying when you're in a local server or something and you alt-tab and have to mute your game to watch a video someone linked you or something. I know you can disable game sound while not tabbed in, but when you play in windowed/noborder mode it's sometimes useful to have sound on.

] stopsound
Can't use cheat command stopsound in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
] stopsoundscape
Can't use cheat command stopsoundscape in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.

I know I said in a local server, but it's still annoying when waiting for a pug to start or something

no longer possible. for anyone that is curious about how it was done:

1. in \steam\steamapps\user\team fortress 2\tf\scripts\, create a "soundscapes_manifest.txt".

2. in "soundscapes_manifest.txt", copy and paste this:

soundscapes_manifest
{
}
