Since the first time i used the infamous open plugin, what got most of my attention where the picmip hack, which took away the limit from the picmip number, and by doing that, hugely increasing the fps performance on low-tier computers (like mine, fucking dual core).
I ask you, fellow tf2'er, what's your opinion on the limit imposed by the source engine, why do you think it exists?
Maybe i'm stupid and don't see an obvious downside, so enlighten me in that case, otherwise, state your opinion!
Thanks!

Fairly certain extremely low picmip didn't affect performance. Might be wrong though, I can't remember where I read it

Currently the limit is to 2 (which is the worst possible without the open plugin)
#4 Since the open plugin was banned i'm using 2 only :<
fuckin' 30 fps, cramping my style :P

obscenely low picmip like 5 or 6 does NOT affect your performance. at least when I used it, it didn't.
Also, the main reason Valve won't implement low picmip (I would at least think) is because it would make sticky traps + spies far more visible.

Don't agree, picmip does improve fps, at least for me.
Wouldn't that improve gameplay to some degree?

picmip is all about vram
if your card's vram can't handle picmip 2 (which should take up an eighth of the space of picmip -1) without shitting your framerate you REALLY need a new card one way or another
