the thing people don't understand is that the word autistic is used to be synonymous with the word retarded when really autism is not a bad or dumb thing. It doesn't really have anything to do with political correctness, it's just people not understanding the definition of the word.

Pretty sure people defend the word autistic because they want to seem like such a down to earth person, who respects all human beings.
Next thing you know, they tell their brother/sister to put down the water gun and stop acting so retarded.
If you call out someone for saying retarded/autistic/gay/etc. 90% you are a hypocritical person. Really stems from bandwagon hate, and the people who want to appear as the "better man."

As one of the few people that has to be around autistic people, I'm not finding it offensive...

While I'm sure plenty of people are hypocrites about their word usage, I don't think it's totally fair to generalize or claim ass-pulled statistics like 90% (which is just a way to generalize while being able to claim you aren't generalizing).

Your post was unnecessary. You're sparking an argument about stats, which is completely irrelevant. My post was to describe the hypocrisies in the usage of common words that seem derogatory. Not statistics. If I said "most" would you feel satisfied?
Anyways, thread isn't even about the mouse anymore, probably should be locked or w/e.

To be clear, I wasn't arguing about the statistics, I was arguing about making unfair, baseless generalizations. So whether you say '90%' or 'most' it's the same thing.
This argument is terribly dumb and off-topic though, and I'm at fault for continuing it. My bad.

Let's just stop arguing about the usage of the word autism and worry about how freestate will destroy open now. :(
