He got the record for highest fall, he didn't get the record for longest free fall (time before parachute was pulled) which was 4:37 (he fell for 4:22) and they aren't sure yet if he broke the speed of sound, they will be finding that out soon.

Pretty sure he broke the speed of sound. They estimated he'd hit ~690 mph which they estimated would be Mach 1.2 at that altitude, and he hit well over 700 mph. So even if the speed of sound at the point he hit his highest speed was higher than expected due to higher than expected temperatures ( speed of sound = sqrt(gamma*R*T) ) I would imagine he still broke Mach 1.
