RawrSpoonIrregardless most definitely IS a word, albeit an improper one that sounds awful and shouldn't be used. It's a synonym for regardless, irregardless of its roots. All you really have to do if someone brings it up is correct them politely, otherwise you're just coming off as an arrogant pedant.
Personally, I'm fine with people using words that sound wrong or improper as long as I understand what they mean from the context.
I understand what you are saying, but I will disagree with you. The idea that 'irregardless' is synonymous with 'regardless' is the problem. Someone randomly decided they wanted those two words to be synonymous well after the definition of the prefix 'ir' was established, which is wrong and dumb.
Saying 'irregardless' is synonymous with 'regardless' is like saying 'irreversible' is synonymous with 'reversible' or 'irregular' is synonymous with 'regular'.
No. Just no.

No. Just no.
Context and usage is what gives it meaning. Irregardless is an irregular synonym of regardless BECAUSE it's used as a synonym of regardless.
Exceptions like these are commonplace in the English language.
