Anyone play this? I'm thinking of DLing it and want to know if it's any good/fun.
I hated every second of it. Gameplay felt so slow and generic. The idea behind it is great, but I feel like it's only good 10% of the time.
I have, it's an alright game full of it's own problems.
You'll find the most enjoyment of playing this game with 4-11 friends. Playing as a "Lone Wolf" is highly not recommended and you'll usually end up hating it if you play like that.
I play Mattherson Vanu (along with a lot of other TF2 players) but Vanu on Mattherson is a bit over pop'd so you might want to try Waterson if you want to Vanu or even TR (Terran Republic), or Mattherson NC(New Conglomerate).
I haven't played in awhile because I can't hold much higher than 30fps in combat.
Personally though even with almost all my experience being at under 40fps I love the game but it does have its quirks. Poorly optimized for one (it doesn't support multi-threading yet), it's still kinda in the process of being released globally and on multiple platforms so it's not quite polished, bordering Pay 2 Win features you can pay for experience boosts that make the upper level stuff come 50-100% faster, or you can outright buy weapons that may or may not be a straight upgrade or be better in a situation.
I'd try the game with some friends and try playing with a group if I were you first, preferably people that have already played PS2 before and know a lot about it.
Overall would Recommend, it's free anyway.

probably played mostly as a "Lone Wolf"

My pc cant run it well, but when I played for a while it was really fun
If you can't play it with friends don't
Even when you do play it with friends a lot of times you end up making a big group of em and following around other groups and just mobbing half-abandoned installations
In its defense I once saw my brother defend a biolab for so long that when he went to bed after several hours of defense it was cut off from the rest of the vanu and when he came back they still had it and were still cut off, so you can get some pretty intense battles on occasion

Well shit... now I'm not sure if I should cancel this download or not. I'm basically looking around for any other good F2P games, if there are any.
If you're a good infiltrator, it's massively enjoyable. Equivalent to being a good spy in TF2. You'll stay alive long, you'll do crippling damage, and your team will eventually push in and help.
However: The gameplay itself is clunky. You won't go above 60fps, your aim will not be smooth, and the hitscan itself is shoddy as well (as one would expect with such a large battlefield).
Playing with friends is fun. Massive air raids, coordinated pushes, powerful flanks.
The game certainly has its appeal, and is enjoyable to play and get good at. I personally don't enjoy it due to the jankyness of the movement and hitscan. The FPS components of it are lacking, and it makes the game simply not for me.

It's perfectly possible to get over 60 FPS in Planetside 2 you just need a beast for a PC to do it (or simply look at the ground in a low pop area). Their's a setting called "Reduced Input Lag" you'll usually get slightly lower FPS because of it but your aim becomes smoother. Finally, their is no such thing as Hitscan in Planetside 2 ALL bullets, lasers, and rockets are projectiles most of which have drop. actually melee might be hitscan but that would be about it.
an i5 @ stock settings whether it's Sandy/Ivy/Haswell, a GTX 660/HD7850, should get over 60fps @1080p with the lowest settings in most battles.

only took me 183 hours to get good enough to where sonys absolutely retarded anti cheat admins banned me for cheating, 3 accounts banned in total. i had $65 of cosmetic shit/guns and earned 18000 certs gone down the drain. i still got have 3 accounts that i play on that haven't been banned yet.
pretty sure their anticheat admins don't even spec you and just ban you based on your killstreaks and how many shitlords report you.

its fun the only problem i really see with it is that it is horribly optimized
At stock settings the game is really glitchy and laggy, but there are a lot of tweaks you can do (useroptions.ini or something) that make it better

Was going to make a post about a dude that's been cheating for nearly a full year on their Mattherson and still hasn't been banned. Found it he was banned about 2 weeks ago
NivX (seriously this dude was off the charts, he had a KPM as Infantry that made even the Best Pilots and Tankers seem worthless)

I'm lone wolfing it right now just to somewhat test it out. I've noticed a lack of players on the other team so far, but I'm probably in the wrong regions regardless if not owned by my empire, I guess.
So far overall, not too shabby. Not enough play time to say anything though. As for FPS, I get fine FPS (not sure what I get, is there a counter?); feels smooth.

hit ALT + F and in the bottom left you can see a counter, hit ALT again to be able to look around again.

Keep this in mind; with F2P games, you get what you pay for. Planetside 2 is simply not entertaining. I have played with every weapon and faction until BR 15 at least, with some nearing 45. There are moments when it is fun, but simply the zerg-mentality the structure supports, you just become a statistic in the group of players. Nothing you do feels like you made an impact on the battle whatsoever. Things have to be executed with sheer manpower and tank power. Driving said vehicles is a bore, but when you get the opportunity to do damage (only at the time people are unaware of you driving up on them) you can slaughter people for at most 15 seconds in a crowded area. The game gets stale due to the nature of people doing the same thing over and over to take a territory. Overall stagnant gameplay meets a ludicrous character progression system that does not lend itself to the casual player unless that player pays money to get the weapons that just do better at medium ranges. Medium range is the killer of both Long Distance and Short Distance fights. That's just what I've learned, but I've not tried the SMGs they have added in, but I anticipate disappointment.
I did however get a nice experience from playing in a large organized group, playing as mainly an infantry guy with some pretty good FPS players. This is with an applied-to organization that holds nightly operations and experienced main-callers of battles. Only then did I feel like I was worth a bit of something in a battle, because I could visually see the destruction we were causing as one big unit. That's the only way to have fun in the game, but if you are a player who sticks with friends only, don't try it. You won't get very far because there are the factions of these guys on your side, and two more of them on other factions trying to do the same thing to you guys.

^ you really win or lose based on the number of people you have compared to them, though for shits and giggles and tons of exp. Credits, use a harasser with a fury as the main gun, infantry die in 2 hits
I was playing that since Alpha launch, b/c I still had my PS1 account active, and stayed until and little after live launch. I REALLY tried to enjoy the game since I loved PS1 and during the alpha and beta you didn't have to pay for any of the stuff which made the game a lot more fun, but still not very good. I kept trying for about a week and it just became so boring, so quickly

I guess I had a vastly different experience than alot of other players did. I played with an outfit called Hayabusa, and we usually did 1-2 Squads and fought just ahead of the Zerg or in the places the Zerg just wouldn't end up at or couldn't deal with properly. We would regularly go up against Platoon size outfits and it was awesome.

They changed the game alot, the big one being they readded the Lattice System from PS1. You might like the game more now.

Oh shit!! That's fucking great. The "system" or lack of a system was really stupid

Yeah, that game has improved a lot would be a shame if people stopped playing it. The idea for this game is just so amazing.

I really enjoy it when I have nothing to do and just chilling with some friends. Otherwise not so fun alone.

TR harasser without a marauder i am disappointed. a few days before i got banned on my main TR character i started using a fully certed out marauder harasser and would get killstreaks in the 40s just farming bad infantry players. wonder if that had anything to do with me getting banned.

I wasn't playing with anyone I know but I found a pretty vocal squad/platoon to play with while I was playing. If there's anything I learned about the game is that the game never seems to end.

That *is* the idea behind it ;)
And apologies for saying hitscan. What I was referring to was, when the projectile actually seems to hit the person, you can totally not register a hit. So I'm getting that's bad hitreg lel.

i'd say the hitreg is pretty damn good considering when your in huge battles with hundreds of players with tens of thousands of bullets being shot everywhere that's not even cluding all the explosions and vehicle fire
