So I have a pair of closed back headphones that I love (ATH-M50S), but I'd really like to get a nice pair of open back headphones. The two main choices right now are AD700s and HD518s, by Audiotechnica and Sennheiser, respectively. Any other recommendations are ofc welcome.
If you're considering the AD700s I'd recommend picking up the AD700x instead of it

I was thinking of that, but the 700x are $50 extra

kawaiiwhat would you use the headphones for (mainly)?

Definitely when compared to ad700s and other open back headphones, but my sr80s were a big improvement from my old closed cans (some old sonys). *in terms of soundstage

the ad700s are popular, i just don't like that they're purple and sort of goofy looking. they're supposedly one of the best (if not the best) for gaming at that price range.
I use the hd518 currently but haven't used the ad700s.
The HD518 are very loud by standard (might be my soundcard though), while gaming they are real clear and you can hear where stuff is coming from quite well. Listening to Music on those things is a joy, good bass but also clear enough for classic. Also just as great for watching movies, mids could be a bit more crisp but maybe I only get that impression because of the way Benedict Cumberbatch talks.
They are comfy as hell too, can wear em for 5+ hours with no problem

I like uncomfortable headphones, therefore i have to stop playing after 4hrs
