if it's going to change your resolution then don't, if not then go for it.

the difference between 120 and 144 is noticeable and 60 to 75 is a much larger % change so yeah its worth it

Personally, I use 75Hz on a CRT at 1024x768. I have an LCD that can do 60Hz and 75Hz at 1280x1024. The difference between 60Hz and 75Hz on the LCD isn't too dramatic, but the difference between 60Hz or even 75Hz on the LCD against 75Hz on the CRT is pretty astounding. On the CRT, things just move more fluidly above 75 FPS and the smoother experience really helps with the pace of the game. Going back to the LCD makes me cringe now, despite it having a slightly crisper image. Granted, I'm not using super amazing monitors (the LCD is a Dell from 2002 that I found next to a dumpster and the LCD is a pretty average 8ms HP). However, before using the CRT primarily, I didn't really realize that smoother gameplay existed. Just some food for thought :)

Personally, if I was stuck on a 60hz monitor trying to play a video game competitively I would absolutely play at a non native res to get 75hz. Really though the only way to tell if you can deal with the trade off in resolution is to try it and see.

I have a 1680x1050 60Hz monitor connected vie a HDMI to DVI cable ( HDMI is the video card and DVI to the monitor). Does setting 75Hz actually put through 75Hz to the monitor or is the hdmi side limiting it to 60Hz?

If you are going to buy a new monitor anyway why not swap to 120hz or 144hz, its much better :)

I will never understand questions like these...I don't want to sound like I'm putting anyone down, because that's not my intent, but if your monitor has the capability, why are you asking on a forum instead of just giving it a shot?

I have tried it and I am almost sure that it feels more smooth, however, I want to confirm this. It could also just feel smooth because it's slightly higher than 60 fps but maybe not the full 75Hz for whatever reason. I'm just not knowledgeable in this so I want to be sure
