Just moved into a new apartment, and don't really have the floor space in my new room for a wheeled desk chair. Was considering either a stool or a ball that would fit under the desk when not necessary and possibly improve my back posture.
Anybody here use one? What are they like for extended gaming sessions?

How is a ball gonna occupy less space than a chair?

Because it doesn't have a high back so it fits under the desk when not in use.

I've used an exercise ball as a desk chair. I wouldn't really reccomend it for playing games, because it's a lot more active than you think to balance on the ball. A stool would be really uncomfortable too, your back would get sore because you have no support. You should probably just get a desk chair and find somewhere to put it.

Thanks for the reply. How long did you use it for? I expect it would take quite a while to get used to.

I used it as a kind of exercise thing because I had to do quite a bit of data entry one day and I didn't want to just sit for like 10 hours. It really REALLY works your core, i was so sore the next day. I still use it on and off when i have to sit and do something boring on the computer like writing long papers.

I used an exercise ball as a desk chair for about 4 months last year and while it did help my posture, I ended up having to deal with massive cramps in my calves and feet from balancing myself. Might just be the way I sit (and I am a lot taller than the average person, so I had trouble getting my legs in a comfortable spot), but I'd recommend against it if at all possible.

I've been using one every day at work for about a year and a half. It didn't take me more than a couple weeks to get used to.
It can actually be worse for you/your posture/back if you don't sit on it properly. I get obnoxious back aches if I sit at screwey angles for a while(tends to happen when I'm sitting cross legged and getting a closer look at my right monitor while still having my torso facing forward. Since you're not in a chair that swivels with you, its easy to be accidentally contorting your body (probably especially with dual monitors)
Despite those caveats, I don't think I'd see an issue in gaming in one for an extended period. I prefer it to my normal desk chair at work.

get a chair without arms that will roll under the desk... no need for such weird solutions when chairs exist
