I think the marathon would be a great idea for those who might not be able to make it on Saturday. If that doesn't work out the tourney could be a good idea. Maybe the coaches could pick initial teams if enough people show up and then go from there.

Vickm and speedygeek got me into competitive TF2 by being some of the nicest coaches/people I've ever played with, and the same goes for hooli. This group got myself into 6v6 which probably never would have happened if it wasn't such a fun, painless experience to join up and play. If you're thinking of playing comp TF2 and you're sitting here reading this thread not knowing what to do... Play newbie mixes. I guarantee you that you will want to come back again and again.

edit: I'd totally be down to play all weekend as a student/coach, whatever.

a newbie mix marathon would be cool but it would require a tonnnn of dedicated coaches and newbies. if im correct mixes end around 12 each week.

newbie pugs marathon would be a lot more realistic just cause theyre low maintenance and addicting :p. i heard on slins stream they went to 7am last week!

a tournament sounds cool as well but how would we make it work?

We are going to incorporate Newbie Mixes with Tip of the Hats. Another stream event is possible, but it would be nowhere nearly as effective. Plus I prefer not to leech all money from the community. What will most likely happen is that well known players will stream the event, like Slin and Ruwin streaming newbie mixes.

A marathon is the most likely event that will occur. I'm attempting to get alot of very experienced players (Eldritch, Indust, Ruwin, etc...) to come coach for a good bit and participate in the event.

We are going to have Newbie Pugs, and Newbie Mixes running at the same time. The mixes would be at the regular time of 9-12 EST, and the pugs would run until they die (Usually die at 3-7AM)

Recently PM'd you this but posting here as well, hopefully some other people will get different ideas based off of mine.

Invite Level Coaches - Try and get ahold of a lot of invite level coaches to help out with Newbie Mixes. Try to get ahold of players in mix^, iT, or other players that used to play in invite such as pyyyour, ruwin, etc.

Marathon - You already talked about that one, but definitely Friday - Sunday with mixes 9-12 and pugs 9-whenever.

Release of Highlander Mixes - I remember you talking about maybe releasing highlander mixes somewhere in the future and this would be the perfect time to release it. You could announce highlander mixes on the anniversary but start them up the week after having highlander mixes with Platinum level coaches on Fridays, then 6v6 mixes on Saturdays.

Class Specific Seminar-ish Things - Have invite players have a seminar type thing at a certain time during the anniversary about a certain class. Like, you could have b4nny have an advanced demo seminar with questions at the end. While people like Harbleu could go for a medic one, clockwork on scout or something like that.

Rollouts - Have a demo and roamer show rollouts to mid, fast and normal.

Highlander Newbie Mixes would be problematic unless we have a huge popularity from the start. They would require 2 coaches per team to catch everything. So alot of coaches is near essential. Also, There would be an insane amount of spies compared to engies or heavies for example.

Newbie Marathon going LIVE NOW!

Because I highly doubt many coaches will be able to show up for all the 3 days, we will be running pugs throughout the entire weekend (Fri-Sun). Peak hours will be from 9-12EST, and these are the hours coaches should come if they desire to coach. That being said, if we have enough coaches, mixes will be run until we run out. Pugs will run as long as there are people.

If you wish to learn from the best, come Saturday from 9-12EST. During these mixes we will have many experienced coaches such as Eldritch, Indust, Marxist, etc.. along with our usual bunch of coaches.

I am still currently looking for another 1-2 admins to add to our staff. If interested, add me or leave a reply in this thread.
