Got an Alienware m14x r2 (yeah i know laptop scrub race) it's got a mini display port in it, so if I get a mini display port to DVI-D adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-006B-DisplayPort-Single-Link-Certified/dp/B004071ZXA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1385081490&sr=8-6&keywords=mini+displayport+to+dvi-d
Then use my male to male dual link DVI-D to get 120hz on my 120hz monitor?
Or is there an easier way? Like using a mini displayport to displayport cable?

the mini display port on the m14x passes through the intel gpu, I took a major fps loss using the mini display port on my laptop, even though it was still using the nvidia gpu. Ultimately I had to pick between 90-100 fps 1366x768 120Hz and 1920x1080 240+ fps 60Hz. My solution was to buy a desktop.

Asus is the monitor linked at the bottom, it has a displayport but not a mini, would a minidisplay port to displayport display 120hz?

i have the VG248 as do most of us with high-end monitors. using the above cable (i recommend getting the 6.6 foot one) it supports 144hz and 120hz with lightboost, if installed. the setup was as easy as pluging the cable in and switching to 144hz through the nvidia control panel. this cord lets the monitor connect to the graphics card itself, as opposed to simply mirroring the laptop's monitor.

Great! So get that cord and I should be good to go right? This is the monitor I use. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ That would work fine, correct?
This is my graphics card, no problems with that either?

Or if the mini port is the problem, what if I just use a male vga to female dvi-d converter? Do you think that would prevent the loss of frames? And from there use a duel link dvi-d male to male cord?

that would be fine if it supported 120Hz. the cable i listed is the only one i've found to support up to 144Hz.
to frkn, i have the R4
