OBS with USB headset?

I've been having issues with OBS the last couple of days, specifically with sound (apparently). When I use my default audio device in options (which is a Razer Kraken 7.1 headset), my stream (or preview) instantly shuts down returns the error message "Error: Cannot initialize desktop audio sound, more info in the log file." I've checked my log file in the analyzer, but it thinks that it's because I don't have any enabled sources and finds a problem that doesn't actually exist. The thing is, I've been streaming on and off for the past two weeks (since I started seriously getting into it) and never encountered this problem until last night. I've had this headset for about a month-month and a half now. All I can say is there was an OBS update for something last night or the night before, but I streamed for a bit after it came out - however, when I did stream last night, I had crippling lag, causing me to skip for 10 seconds every 15 seconds and shooting my ping into the 400s when I'm usually sub-40, which was something I hadn't encountered before.

I've looked up the issue and discovered this thread, but it doesn't help me at all - I've tried running just OBS and the same thing happens. I have successfully started my stream using my motherboard's outputs (no sound card for me, hence the USB :<) but I didn't hear anything over twitch - it should be noted that at the time I didn't have anything plugged into those outputs, which may cause my issues, I don't know. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to return the headset and get a 3.5 mm-compatible one?

My related specs:

Processor: Intel 3570-K @ 3.4
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengance DDR-1600
Video Card: EVGA 660 Ti 2GB
Power Supply: Corsair 750W ATX12V
OS: Windows 8

Bump.

It looks like my return expired six days ago, literally right before this started happening. I can't afford to buy a new set right now. Help would be appreciated.

I already looked at all the resources they have. I know they're just going to link me the thread I linked, which doesn't help me at all.

Check the error code in the log file against this:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee416798%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Something like the line in the OBS thread

Warning -- MMDeviceAudioSource::Initialize(0): Could not initialize audio client, result = 88890017

Where 88890017 is your error code.

Have you tried configuring your headset to work in 2.0 mode?
