does anyone here have a recommended 5s case and/or screen protector?
i don't really need all the heavy duty protection since i rarely destroy my phones. looking for scratch protection and other minor things

look for any TPU case, I have one on my phone and my 3ds and they feel and work great
I have the otter box for mine, it's pretty good and about $30. it has a rubber inner-case for shock protection and a hard plastic outer-case if you drop it. all in all it's alright for what I need, plus it has a fairly soft rubber button for the lock button so it's easy to turn off without having to use all of my finger strength to hit it
I'm so iffy when it comes to cases. An iPhone is so elegant naked and I would hate to ruin it with a case. I'm currently just using a screen protector on mine, although, I am definitely willing to get a case if it looks nice and is functional. I wish you luck in your search though, mines been fruitless so far.
You should check out CNet's iPhone 5s case list if you wanna look at some. http://m.cnet.com/photos/best-iphone-5s-and-iphone-5-cases-pictures/10013856?i=1 (Sorry for the mobile link, on the throne right now.)

Very nice case. Keeps the style of an iPhone, but with the added protection. My screen protector isn't fancy or anything, just the normal one that comes with an OtterBox case. My father bought a two pack and it came with an extra screen protector so I used it.
Highly recommend spigen cases as well as otter ones. For screen protectors spigen carries some good ones, but my favorite (and the ones I sell the most of ) are iShieldz. Don't get any screen protectors that are 'universal' or in a pack of more than 2-3 as the quality is almost always terrible. I would advise against lifeproof cases as they will dampen your sound and (sometimes) overheat your device.

tempered glass ones are pretty good as the retain the original 'feel & texture', however if you have really big thumbs you might have a hard time pressing the home button below the glass. (you can get a stick on home button to clear the difference in space.)
Haven't looked at tech armor but they seem decent.

I have two Otterbox cases (iTouch + Galaxy S3) and they're both great.
It does make my S3 a little more bulky than I'd like though. Not sure what the size is like on their iPhone cases.
