SSD Space on my computer is random.

So I have a Macbook Pro that I play all my games on, and it is partitioned with a torrented version of Windows 7. My problem is that sometimes when I restart my computer to switch from OSX to Windows, I will have ~200MB-8GB of space free. This is completely random, and I do not understand what is going on. I have been told I could re partition my computer with more space, but that is not really what I want to do unless I really need to.

For example, I restarted my computer this afternoon to play TF2. I could not update because apparently I had 300MB of space left on my SSD. I restarted again and I have ~6 GB of space left. And now, as of writing this post, I have ~10 GB of space free.

Please help if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

thanks!

chkdsk your ssd, and see if you can determine if something is using the ssd blocks or if they are just not working

My bets are on the swap file(s).

With <10GB left you should start deleting stuff you never use or get a new SSD anyway.

Do you have the page file size reduced and have you disabled hibernation? The page file size is quite large and hibernation creates a hidden file called hiberfil.sys that defaults to 75% of the size of your RAM. Won't necessarily help with this odd issue of random space going missing but they're good for general SSD maintenance.

yea i have a hiberfile.sys thats like 6.5gb big.

im also considering just buying a decent 500GB SSD and replacing mine..

I'd go for the WD Black Squared drive, it's got a 120gb SSD and a 1tb HDD inside one 9mm thick drive

You will want to check that your laptop has enough space for a 9mm tall drive because some don't, but this will be a cheaper and probably better option than a 500gb SSD. I'd disable hibernation if I were you for now though, it would get you 6.5gb of space back. Googling it has plenty of instructions, and try running WinDirStat to check it was actually removed.
