So, as of last night, I cannot hear any sound coming from steam applications, or steam itself. If I was to check my mic volume or something like that in the settings, I cannot hear it. If I join a group chat or something, I cant hear a thing. It even effects games, I cannot get any audio from TF2. Nothing. Zip.
However, everything else on my computer works fine. I can open a web browser and watch a video with no problems, or listen to music on itunes. Steam and its applications appear to be the only thing not giving me any sound. Its rather annoying, and I have messed with all of my settings and I cannot figure it out. I don't even have a clue what could had caused this to begin with.
I am using windows 8, not sure if that makes any difference with figuring this out. I've restarted my computer, updated everything and all that's left is re-installing steam and tf2. Would really hate to do that, but if it comes down to it, whatever.
Any thoughts? I got scrims tonight and if I cant get any audio in game, its going to be an odd disadvantage on my part.

update: I re-installed steam. It appears to be a different problem all together. I noticed that sound was playing thru my laptop speakers, but when i switched the device over to my headphones, it wouldnt play anything on them. I tried a different headset (and this is the headphone jack input) and it was the same problem. So its not my normal headset thats doing this. Im not sure if its a problem with my sound drivers or what, but I have no clue on how to fix this.
