Hello fellow TF2 players, for a while now I was thinking about casting matches since it seems to me that there is literally only one decent caster in Europe and I want to personally change that.
However, I don't know how to get started or get into it.
I would need someone who could guide me and give me tips on what I need to pick up while casting; filling gaps when nothing is happening, where to put the camera in certain situations, how do I set up everything so it doesn't look like a mess? That kind of stuff.
After that of course, I would upload my own post-produced cast and ask for feedback again and try to get "good" at casting as soon as possible.
I would appreciate any kind of help, especially from people that have casted or are casting, whatever game it might be.

You have to be decent at the game, to understand whats important. You have to speak fluent language and be rather talkative, dont swear or be immature/annoying. You have to show initiative and the will to be a caster. You have to make your way into the circlejerk orgs. Then there is the technical stuff. You can pretty much find everything you need on these forums alone. I'm talking about AdvSpec tools, caster cheats/plugins, etc. gl hf

Please note that the official Vanillatf2 and Teamfortresstv casting huds are still private, for whatever reason.
According to Rays, the eXtv casting HUD is going to be released soon and you can find a remake of the Teamfortresstv HUD by Voloder here. You could also use OMP´s hud which is what the Teamfortresstv channel used before that one.

Alright, technical side is covered now, just need to set up everything.
Thanks :D.

A big thing is like, don't overstep yourself. Don't try to be someone you aren't. If you're not an ex-invite superstar, don't start giving overly critical analysis like you are one, because your analysis will be wrong, and you'll look like an idiot to anyone who knows jack about the game.
Don't try and be funny. Funny shit will happen in tf2. It will speak for itself. If you have a good co-caster, little funny moments will happen between the two of you naturally. It's not something you should think about or try to force.
In that same note, don't try and hype a situation up. I always roll my eyes when casters just start screaming or in some cases even pretending to lose their shit about crap that isn't even a big deal. Some people eat that shit up. But those people probably watch the casters you aren't so fond of and are just fine with them - because let's face it, most tf2 players don't actually know very much about tf2 and are easily satisfied. From your post, I'm guessing you don't want to be some run of the mill caster loved by the OMG SIGN MY SCATTERGUN part of the community, and thought of as an absolute joke by people who actually play/understand the game.
So, for real, don't try to generate hype that isn't there. It's really fucking cheesy. TF2 is a game that is full of clutch and insane moments. You don't need to hype shit up. Crazy shit will happen on it's own. You just need to catch it, and cast it.
Keep shit real. Don't be fake.
People don't expect you to be perfect, just be you. You don't need to be all knowing - but when you don't know something, you need to know where and how to find it. Don't feel like you have to go it alone. Cast with someone who compliments you, and cast in a way that compliments the person you cast with.

Listen to everything people say about you and your casting and learn from the criticism, try not to be affected by insults and youtube comments.
Enjoy it and dont think too hard about analysis, let the talking come naturally.

I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to do Selo. You're asking for casting and camera advice; are you wanting to shoutcast or be in control of the camera?
You could do both I guess if you wanna do it on your own channel, but for all the orgs (which I assume you'd be trying to join since otherwise you're achieving nothing since you'll be getting tiny viewer numbers) they have dedicated casters and dedicated cameramen. There is a real lack of cameramen right now though, jon works his balls off.

@slideezy
Appreciate the conduct, it really is the truth what you are saying and I have experienced a lot of times when other casters tried exactly that what you we're describing, thanks :).
@Ryushi
Yeah, it really is important to not get taken over by the comments and hate, thanks for the reminder.
@Slideshow
I'd like to start of doing post-produced casts, doing the camera work and shoutcasting at the same time.
After a while I would either try and cast alongside someone or be on the camera, because like you said, Jon is really the only guy who is on the camera and it wouldn't hurt to have someone else who could step in.
What I am basically trying to do right now is trying to build a solid foundation on how to do everything casting related, afterwards I'll delve into one aspect and completely focus on it.

When I first started, I solicited the advice of eXtv members, combined them and added some of my own tips. Here's my casting guide. It has tips about talking, camera angles, and I think what you're looking for.
Good luck!

I remember having seen that file some years ago but shrugged it off at the time, thanks a lot!

Lol, understandable. But it's not just my tips, it's also Sal, Duder, and eXtine, some real pros ;)

TFTV are always looking for new staff. Talk to me on steam.

La_maisonPlease note that the official Vanillatf2 and Teamfortresstv casting huds are still private, for whatever reason.
Just noting that it's not private "for whatever reason", it's private because it's not meant for play, it's solely meant for casting, so that's the only part that's maintained.

Is there any particular reason why you couldn't put it up with an explanation mana? If you put it on github, someone might even come in and make the rest of the hud for you.
Then again, I think it's perfectly reasonable to keep your casting hud private because you want to have your own look. I *think that's the case for vanillaTV, as they have their logo strewn about it.

That's beyond me, I just know this is the normal explanation for not having it up.
