thinking about cleaning my filco keyboard now, i just watched this video and im wondering for those that have done it do you feel that all these steps are absolutely necessary? i was thinking of just hitting it with dust off to avoid removing all the caps, i don't have any stuck keys just wanted to give it a once over to keep up with the maintenance.

I always take off the caps, wash them, clean the interior and put it back together. Worth it in my opinion, feels like new afterwards.

I've used a dishwasher on my das keyboard.

(no soap, no food particles, let it dry 48 hours, no keycaps).

Worked perfect, made the board work like new. (I spilled a pint on it.)

If its just something minor like maintenance like you said, duster should work fine for a while, however body hair/particles will eventually build up and get tangled.

all i did was take off the keycaps and wipe them off and get all of the dust/hair out of the bottom of the keyboard. and I personally don't feel all of the steps are necessary, but I'm sure it varies on keyboard.
(same as f_blue basically)

I pulled all my keycaps off and used rubbing alcohol with q-tips. It was a bit tedious but it looked good as new when I was done. It took me about an hour but I imagine I'll only be doing it once or twice a year.

Approximately how long did it take you guys to remove and clean all the keys (not including the drying process)?

I can say first hand that I just remove my keys and clean under them with a wet rag. After I do that I take a paper towel and go over what I just did with the wet rag. It took me something like 30-40 minutes max(I think). If you have trouble removing the keys just grab a fork or knife and just pry them out lightly. It hasn't hurt my keyboard yet so I'd say its a good way to clean it.
