thinking about buying a new monitor to get away from this disgusting 60hz but just curious about what 3d means and if having a 3d 120hz apposed to a non 3d 120hz would be better or not
thx~
ps: dont burn me for my lack of knowledge of monitors.

the 3d capable ones do a thing where u get glasses for like 100 dollars extra and then u can do a thing where u see half of the frames in one eye and half in the other and it makes 3-d and no you don't need it
okay so it's basically irrelevant because i'd never be doing that. thanks
I myself bought a 3d monitor (since it was refurbished in great condition for really cheap) because it also has 120hz feature.
I just don't use the 3d. Works like a charm tho :D
If the 3D monitor is cheaper then go for it, just make sure it's actually a 120Hz monitor. Some 60Hz monitors support 3D.
With 3D you can use Lightboost, which allows for better motion clarity. You do get some input lag with it on though, so I wouldn't recommend it for playing any FPS.

Lightboost shouldn't add any input lag. All it does is strobe the backlight in time with the monitor refresh.
oh yeah I forgot my monitors did 3D
too bad I'll never use it LOL

There was a whole thread that was either about it or went on a tangent. Basically, there is a small amount of input lag. Monitors are supposedly pushed to their limits in Lightboost mode, so that might be why there's input lag.
Let me find that thread...

Since Lightboost was never really meant for 2D use, they probably didn't worry about it being lag-free. Since Nvidia's working on a 2D Lightboost official feature, I'd assume this is being worked on.
tbh I have only had trouble with my 3D, with it randomly turning on when I play older games etc and causing crashes. I'd probably buy one without it just to get rid of that shit, because the 120hz are so worth it anyways
