Samsung Galaxy s3 help.

In 2012 my friend was looking to purchase an iPhone. I told her to buy a galaxy s3 because it was cheaper and has more features and abilities. So, she believed me and bought the phone. I had no idea how clueless she was with electronics and she got confused with the features instantly. She regretted it ever since she bought it. But that's not all, a couple months after purchase the camera stops working. When you launch he app it explicitly says "camera failed" and crashes. This made her flip and she went on about how garbage the phone was etc, so I volunteered to fix it feeling slightly guilty. I tried getting a Different camera app from the play store but once again it didn't work, only when I instantly switched to the front facing camera did it actually function. (Front facing doesn't work on the default camera). So, she still ended up hating the phone making her feel guilty so I take her to a samsung store where believe it or not, the camera works when the employee launches it and makes us look like total idiots but at least she was somewhat happy. Then a couple months later it stops working AGAIN. Showing the same camera failed message. I got so many angry messages that night it was horror. I believe the camera worked one other time after she hired someone to fix a cracked screen but after a couple weeks it went back to its lemon self. She swears she will never buy anything other than apple ever again and when her contract expires she is torching the phone. You guys ever experience this and/or know a solution? Thanks

Also, I noticed this post for a monitor on craigslist, seems in good condition but I'm not sure about the price as I don't follow monitors much anymore. If you think it's a good deal or have an idea of an offer I should make let me know. http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/sys/4608173185.html

My advice for this stuff is don't recommend electronics to family/friends, even if the device is better, they usually don't know how to use all the features anyway and if they either break it themselves or they just have bad luck the blame will usually be on you (unless it is a really good friend I guess.)

In all fairness, it's a pretty terrible phone. I will never buy a Samsung phone again.

From a hardware standpoint, the galaxy s3 is better than the iphone 5: Better processor, larger screen, microsd card slot, and a better/removable battery. You can try putting the phone's layout on easy mode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LaigEFptY8) to see if that helps. And this might help you with the camera portion (http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-fix-camera-failed-on-samsung-galaxy-s3). Maybe your friend should spend some time searching for solutions and make do with what she has instead of just bitching at you about it.

to this day, i still don't get why people who aren't tech saavy buy android phones
unless you're willing to accept the learning curve (which isn't that steep) of learning to use one, just don't buy one

that's why apple exists

Thanks, I'll try that. And believe me, I've tried telling her to research on her own.

This.

The android learning curve really isn't that bad at all.

Also, this took a few seconds to google: http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-fix-camera-failed-on-samsung-galaxy-s3

It was a couple hundred dollars cheaper with a better plan in addition to the what I thought was an easy learning curve. I've tried all of that, and nothing's changed. Thanks for the help though

I bought an s3 about 1 month ago, immediatly rooted it and installed CyanogenMod... I'm happy with it but its apparent there are many incompatibilities / bugs to be ironed out as its normal in a custom rom

Particularly the camera had a lot of problems, but I only ever heard of the S3 camera problems on custom roms, never on the original rom, so I cant really help you. I semi-fixed mine by installing a custom rom with a alt camera app for cyanogen, it still crashes but much more rarely

The "camera failed" can also be down to the actual camera being faulty, if it can't establish a connection it will sometimes just come up with that message.

I think you can test the camera without that application by going to the dialer and calling "* # 0 * # " although I think that might just do the display. There's another one but I can't remember it I think it's either *#7353# or *#4353#. That one should have a camera test as well.

If it doesn't work through those then it's likely to be just fucked.

what good is an attractive price for a device you don't even know how to use?
manual transmission cars get better gas mileage than automatics but they have more of a learning curve

got an s3 when it first came out, screen randomly died after a week, returned it and been using the 2nd one since then with 0 issues

i don't use custom roms or have any particular desire to fuck around with mobile tech, phone works just fine for casual use and is intuitive, at release it felt a bit clunky and slow compared to iOS (especially the keyboard) but later updates fixed that

my advice to you is to stop thinking that because you made a suggestion you are somehow responsible for fixing your friend's phone
